I bought gas at $2.13 this morning and when passing by the same station this evening it was up to $2.35.
Glad that I decided to take the bite in the butt for being late for work this morning.

It always amazes me the disparity in gas prices just short distances apart. I've filled up in Springfield for $2.09 and driven 20 miles in any direction to find $2.19 in the smaller towns. I've never figured out whether the price differences are due to volume differences or just outright profit taking in the smaller towns.

In at least some states, the price difference can be a local tax, directly on fuel, or indirectly on real estate reflecting the higher land values of an in city location.
When you're out in the countryside and seeing different prices, it may be because of the oil companies. Oil companies have a special law that allows them to charge their customers, the gas stations, a variable wholesale price depending on what the market will bear. So if it is a busy interstate interchange, the oil company can jack up the price and then a mile off the interstate, reduce or increase the price, depending on local factors.
The justification, I was told, was when most stations were independently owned as a franchise, no matter where the station was located, there would be no pricing advantage for that owner. He would still be able to get 10 cents or what ever margin per gallon, no more or less than the station owner a mile away or ten miles away.

On the way to town this morning, I was half-listening to the news broadcast but nearly ran off the road when I thought I heard the guy say that oil was $28.something a barrel!! Checked as soon as I got home and, sure enough, it had dropped to $28.60/bbl. It's up to $28.96 right now.
Cheapest gas I saw was $1.86 but expect it to go lower if oil price keeps dropping.

I paid $1.91 / gal a couple of days ago which is the first time in my experience it has been below $2 in Florida.
I'm holding off on filling my 500 gal propane tank. Historically the price of propane falls after the price of oil, especially when the economy tanks. Propane has been coming down for 4 months, which is somewhat typical as demand falls with rising spring temps. Since I fill the tank only once a year, I'm hoping to catch a nice drop in the next few weeks.

Didn't stop to fill up today as I've got a few 5 gallon cans I need to empty of old gas, but saw it was $1.71 all over Nixa MO.
Just read an article expecting another price cut on a bbl of oil to around $20 by the end of the week.
We've got two 500 gallon propane tanks at about 45% right now that we'll be topping off towards the end of the week. I'll let you know what we paid.

I got two prices today on propane delivered, Ferrelgas @ $2.20, and Amerigas @ $2.71. Amerigas couldn't explain the extraordinary price gap but both of their prices are lower than 2 months ago when one of them was almost $4.
