I'm confused, although it's a funny meme, are you saying there's an ulterior motive to crashing the world's economy?

I'm confused, although it's a funny meme, are you saying there's an ulterior motive to crashing the world's economy? When I saw it, I thought that the economy is already crashed, and they're trying to cover their collective posterior.
That, or the economy is crashed, and never waste a good crisis.
I don't know that the economy was crashed intentionally, but they kept driving that car until it was held together with nothing but spit and baling wire, and everything has its limits.

I'm seeing this as the Black Swan we've been talking about for years. The unpredictable occurrence that would tip the first domino.
It may be months before we've weathered through this virus, but the economy is so far into the dumper it will take many years before it returns to any semblance the past.

I don't know...
The attention span of the average American seems to be as short-lived as a fermium-258 isotope ( a whopping 370 microseconds) and they may soon forget everything about this whole..... squirrel!!!!

tabitha, The irony here is that Trump's approval of handling the pandemic so far has been good. If it were just a sudden depression without the virus he'd indeed be in trouble.

tabitha , The irony here is that Trump's approval of handling the pandemic so far has been good. If it were just a sudden depression without the virus he'd indeed be in trouble. That's true, although absent all this corona mess, I'd expect the economy would have done pretty well all year and as we heard repeatedly, the only slim chance Trump had of losing in November was IF the economy tanked. I'm not inclined to believe the virus was intentionally released to cause all this but I would believe that it was an opportunity the Democrats and the media couldn't pass up. While I don't have any serious complaints about Trump's handling of this, I watch what he says and does carefully, same as any other POTUS. I was surprised by how quickly he used those "emergency powers" to interfere with so many private industries, something I would have expected from Putin, not an American president. But he WAS between a rock and a hard place and for the moment, the media can't use this to blame any American deaths on him, which is WORSE than losing your job, of course. My biggest complaint right now is the widespread capitulation to a de facto martial law, which has been done by state and local governments, not the feds. (Yes, I know what has been reported, but I read and listen closely to the actual words used) The reaction to this virus doesn't match the actual threat IMO. If this were a hemorrhagic fever/virus, a radiation or an intentional biologic warfare event I might understand better. But unless there's a lot they're not telling us, turning the bill of rights into toilet paper doesn't sit well with me AT ALL. Tonight we heard Graham county NC (a little west of us) is restricting highway access to anyone not a resident of that county. I think I'll be paying a visit soon to the courthouse to explain a few things before we have a misunderstanding in the near future.

Someone to whom I am very close was told that their employer is going to be handing out special forms, papers with appropriate signatures, that this person has to show the police if they stop him on his way to work.

You know, I try not to be too paranoid, but dammit, the economy is going to crash, and TPTB stand poised to usher in the OWO.

Cops already know they stand NO chance of keeping people at home who need to go places. Any threat of doing so is a public joke, and individual cops already know it.
Stop somebody on the road and they claim to be on the way to emergency surgery and you gotta either let them go or haul them in, and if you haul them in and they are telling the truth, your job is not worth a plug nickel.
Right now is the best time in history for cops to sit beside the road with a couple of more carloads of brothers in blue, shoot craps, smoke joints, tell war stories and ignore traffic like your livelyhood depended on it.....'cause it DOES!
Politicians understand, too, that this is the WRONG time to let their mouths overload their capacity to back up what they are saying. For my surgery midweek, we drove an average of 80 MPH for at least 6 hours round trip, had no cop do more than smile and wave, got waved through border check points with a smile and a "you have a great day" in every instance.
Even the semi trucks were running hard and fast and ignoring speed limits. A popular 2 lane across the bottom of New Mexico with a speed limit of 55 yielded a car or truck meeting us about every 10 miles, running like a scalded dog and apparently NOT looking in the mirror for cops chasing them.
You can assure yourselves that no cops are getting medals for stopping citizens who are in the process of doing their required business at this time. Like most of the rest of this bull crap, it is all talk. Go do what you need to do and encourage friends and neighbors to do the same. Just in case, have your story ready, but if you have to tell it, cough through the driver's window into the face of the cop a few times, just as general insurance.....Joe

I was a little worried about that too at first, but I agree joebill, is right. I've witnessed it myself and actually found that every one I've encountered so far was EXTRA nice and polite which resulted in ME being extra sweet back to them - an unusual side effect for my normally stern disposition. It's worth noting that in every instance, I was there to object to the lockdown orders, inquire about who or where the authority came from or serve notice that I was seeking an injunction against it (or them). I wondered if this shift in authority was a little humbling for them and they were trying to be extra nice since a few weeks ago they were more or less just another citizen and now they literally have the power to execute almost any action at will without question........and that's a little scary if you think about it.
