Was given a bag of kale (not our favorite) and 3 bags of parsnips. Sauteed one bag of the parsnips & some purple onion in garlic & bacon grease, added the kale and some left over chicken. Made a quick garlic white sauce and put it over a handful of pasta. I love one bowl dinners.

Been away at my daughter's house for several days. She is back in the hospital again. Doctors at first hospital screwed up treating her injury so now in a different hospital with much more competent doctors.
Anyway, night before last wife fixed pinto beans and also rice with hamburger. Combine them in your bowl for a yummy treat. She was disappointed though because there was no smoked paprika for seasoning the beans.
Yes, I have several sealed glass bottles of smoked paprika stored with the beans and rice in my pantry at home, which is where we now are. Got to keep the cook happy!

We had a nice spread at my Mother's place earlier today. We are still pretty full so dinner/dessert for me is going to be a piece of baklava and a sliver of a cheesecake brownie. Fresh out of the oven yesterday... I'm off! (In more ways than one. )

We made beef stroganoff in the slow cooker; it turned out really well. We will be using this over the stove top method from now on, I'm sure.

Mari , Yes, the crock pot. I tend to use the term *slow cooker* on the internet's so everyone knows what I'm talking about. Kind of like Cokes, soda or pop, LOL. Internet searches work better with slow cooker as Crock pot is a registered trade name. I used this recipe from Allrecipies www.allrecipes.com/recipe/16352/slow-cooker-beef-stroganoff-i/We used a 2-3 lb. roast. 2 cans of regular cream of mushroom soup 1 can sliced mushrooms. and sour cream in place of cream cheese. Our version made 4, maybe 5 servings.

I absolutely love using the Crockpot/slow cooker for Beef Stroganoff, it makes the meat so tender! I use a pretty simple recipe and always turns out beautifully!
Brown your chopped up beef in butter, with a bit of white and black pepper. Set aside. In the same pan, saute onions until translucent then add the fresh mushrooms and cook until tender. Add the meat back to the pan and add beef broth, and simmer on low heat for 4-6 hours. Add your sour cream, mixed with a bit of cornstarch. Cook for another 1/2 hour or so. Serve over buttered egg noodles, mashed potatoes or rice, whatever takes your fancy.

My wife does a version with ground beef. It also has sliced water chestnuts in addition to the mushrooms.

My husband charcoal-grilled chicken thighs - that were previously marinated in one of our favorites - a lemon oregano marinade. Served alongside Grandma's cheese potatoes. Yum. Spending the evening with Julia again. French Onion Soup, Coq Au Vin, and now we are learning how to prepare Quiche Lorraine.

Christmas dinner with family was last night. We shared ham, chicken tetrazini, roasted potatoes, steamed broccoli and deviled eggs. Dessert was apple pie cobbler and blueberry cobbler with ice cream. People went home with leftovers.

He grilled pork burgers, had a side of corn, and finished up the cheese taters. Dessert was yet another diamond of Baklava each. Julia taught us how to make chocolate mousse and French crepes. We're sorry we are at the end of this dvd. On another note -- I often ask myself -- why did it take me all these years to finally purchase a meat grinder and start making ground pork? We are now subbing it in a lot of recipes that call for ground beef (and one with lamb even) and it is just as good and talk about the savings!! We also started making our own breakfast sausage and won't ever go back to store bought.

Mari, I never thought of making pork burgers, will have to try that. I have been planning to make breakfast sausage as I don’t like any of the 3 brands offered here. Want to share your recipe?

Mari, I started using ground pork as well several months ago, after I realized how much $$ I could save. It makes a very good substitute, nobody notices any difference. I've been using ground chicken as well because of the savings.

I use spicy ground pork and hamburger mixed together to make pizza burgers. Sometimes I do 2 thin patties with mozzarella cheese in the middle.
I'm determined to make a pizza burger like the restaurant my dad took me to back in the late 80's.

Due to Sweet Bride's allergy, we buy the "turkey breasts" that don't have bones and grind them for several dishes. We also buy the boneless pork loins to grind for our homemade dog food. And yes, the savings are quite good.
We bought the LEM 3/4 horse grinder, and you can barely hear the motor stressing while the meat is going through. That's one tough machine.
