Yes, the Devil is the world's foremost Biblical authority. The key for us is understanding very simple Biblical teachings. Teachings that even a child should understand. Then, we put those teachings into practice, for by our fruit we may be known.
Simply put, we are saved by Grace. You can study until Jesus comes back, study is all well and good, but no matter how hard you study, you cannot make up the deficit and save yourself. We start off in a hole, that we cannot get out of. It is humanly impossible. But Grace is the rope that allows us to crawl out and Faith is our ladder to Heaven.
My opinion means nothing in this matter, but I'd rather do the very best I could to live life by the ten most important Bible verses, than to have an encyclopedic knowledge of the Bible. After all, the Pharisees could quote the Torah from memory, keep every Jewish law from the day of their birth and still not have treasure in Heaven.

One last question, one I've never heard addressed, We know that Christians are made one with God and Jesus through the in-dwelling of the Holy Spirit, but if God turned his back on Jesus because all the sin of the world was on him, did God also withdraw his Spirit from him? If unity is through the Spirit, and Christ cried out "Why have you forsaken me?" Quoting the Psalm. Would it seem then that the Holy Spirit was withdrawn thus leaving him alone? That question along with His plea to the Father the night before in the garden of Gethsemane are often misunderstood and mistakenly taught, even from the pulpit. All one needs to do is read the 22nd Psalm, which is next to the more well known 23rd Psalm. I can remember from a child hearing about Jesus' fear of death (Take this cup from me) and how God "turned His back on Him" (Why has thou forsaken me?). I didn't believe it then, and certainly don't believe it now. It never made sense and I guess that was the Holy Spirit guiding me thru the truth in scriptures. First of all, Psalm 22 is prophetic, describing in detail what would happen on the cross 1,000 years later. IOW, Jesus was still preaching until His last breath, showing the world who He truly is. Secondly, if you look at every instance that Jesus spoke to God, His Father, He called Him "Father" (Abba) - not Eli or Eloi (My God).

Jolly, no one here thinks that studying will SAVE your soul. The purpose of study as written in Timothy is to "show thyself approved" and just as important, to keep one from being deceived by the father of all lies. This goes all the way back to the beginning, where Eve misquoted God and ended up being fooled by Satan himself. It was very subtle and cunning, but because she wasn't paying attention, she slipped up and he used it against her to the detriment of us all. Gen 2:17 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.Gen 3: 1-6 1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. All he had to do was show her she could touch it without dying and she was fooled into believing a lie, all because she wasn't paying attention to exactly what God had actually said.

There are several known mistranslations in the King James Bible. Some translations are more accurate than others. Several of them are based on the King James and fail to address the well documented translation errors.
The Bible that I prefer to use was translated directly from the original Greek and Hebrew texts, not any intermediate texts/translations. It is "The Holy Bible In Its Original Order - A New English Translation". In the preface it goes into great detail regarding the translation and the source texts.
Matthew 27:50 And after crying out again with a loud voice, Jesus yielded up His spirit.
