Dad is a porn actor, Dick Delaware. Also has been a MMA fighter...(dad, not son). Ironically, the dad said in an interview that they're Mormons, and "Mormons don't do gay." But they do porn? And meth apparently. Definitely a messed up family. Dad hadn't seen the shooter in over 10 years, and thought he was dead from suicide for over 5 years because shooter's mother told him that.

After a few years on this planet you find out people will SAY just about anything to describe themselves that sounds good. That's when you learn to ignore what they say and watch more what they DO.

The fact is, insane people have always, and always will be with us. It's a terrible revelation, but shouldn't surprise any thinking person. History is full of them, and to a lesser extent our local societies are too. It's always been an dangerous world. Each of you reading this has most likely walked right past someone with homicidal tendencies without knowing it. I've known a few up close and personal that I had no reason to believe were capable of horrendous things until they did them.
Situational awareness should be on all our minds when out in public. Sit where you can see people coming into a restaurant, have an idea where the exits are, and if someone looks "iffy" keep your distance. But the best advice comes from the late Ol' Remus - stay away from crowds.

When I was at the academy we were told that there was a certain percentage of people, I think they said one percent, that will try and kill you if you give them a chance - just for being there in uniform. I thought that number seemed pretty high, but in my encounters with the public then and now, I believe it. Watch yer backs folkz, and I'll repeat what Ozarks Tom said about Ol' Remus - stay away from crowds. bd

BrewDaddy , Thanks for correcting my reference to Ol' Remus. He was quite the guy. I looked forward for many years to his every Tuesday posting. Always inciteful and full of great information. It was so sad when he passed. I remember him mentioning his wife of many years passing from cancer shortly before he died. I always wondered if he'd been so distraught that he'd taken his own life, he never mentioned any illness. I saved one of his greatest comments to documents, and have quoted it with attribution several times. It gives me great hope for the future of this country:

Ozarks Tom, I didn't think I was correcting you on anything - as far as I know that's exactly what Ol' Remus used to say usually at the end of each blog update. bd

BrewDaddy, I don't know why, but I've always had to remind myself he wasn't "Uncle Remus".

I can tell you that medical care varies radically from one area into the next. From southwest New Mexico I could hardly get an appointment with any kind of specialist any sooner than 90 days and SE Arizona I seem to be able walk right in less than a week. Ask for my move and with the help of my daughter and granddaughter I don't think I've had any less than 8 appointments most of them specialists in one type or another.
I did see some strange events in the Tucson emergency room not long ago. People were walking in and explaining their problem and getting triaged Some stuffed in the backroom for hours some waltz right into see the doctor. One guy walked in and said that he was suffering from withdrawal from alcohol and started hitting himself in the head with a paper cup and claimed it was putting voices in his head. They rushed him right in and I never saw him again.... Joe
