The ban on mountain lion hunting has just about eliminated our deer population. Would you like some sent to you?

Deer season here opens on Saturday the 10th and runs thru the 25th. This year we can take an unlimited amount of does. I guess I'll be trying to put a hurt on them at the new house. We saw 43 at one time earlier in the summer. The dogs have run most of them off but not all of them. I can use a couple in the deep freeze and the dogs are always hangry. I'm hoping to save about $300 in dog food alone. We'll see.
The dogs have already got one. I have some catching up to do.

Season starts here on Saturday as well. Still have to go downhill and make sure there aren't any surprise deer stands on our land. It's happened in the past. You can pick up some nice deer stands that way. I'd like to kill off a few this year, but not sure how much Nick wants to go hunting. As I originally said 3 years ago, sitting in a tree and waiting for Bambi to show his face is not my thing. I can gut, I can butcher, I can wrap, and I can cook, but I'm not into waiting around.

Talking to some guys in the feed store today, and they were saying it's now illegal to feed deer in Stone County. Apparently it's because of the wasting disease, but I don't understand that. I'd think allowing feeding would thin out the herds. Maybe there's some logic I'm not understanding.

Guess I too would need more explanation. Are they fearful the sick deer would come into the area to feed and be shot, potentially exposing humans or are they afraid of thinning out the healthy ones to much?
We had the wasting disease here last year really bad. A local resort is a deer haven and herds are always thick. Last year I guess so many died from the wasting disease the stench in the area was nearly unbearable I was told by ppl who lived near there. Marked decrease in the herd this year.

You'll find me on a 5 gallon bucket, leaned up agin' a fence post, most of the time asleep. I've got some of my best sleep hunting deer. The deer don't seem to mind the snoring much.

"Ain't this the truth"
Now I haven't hunted in years, but when I did; my gun and I would take long walks in the woods, have a picnic, and sleep together for many hours... I've only heard one complaint from deer in all those year by a young buck who stood about 20' away and kept snorting till I woke up.. No I didn't get a shot.
The funniest part is the wife doesn't understand this romance/tryst.

The belief is that CWD (Chronic Wasting Disease), being highly communicable, will spread more quickly among the deer if they are always congregating in the exact same location all the time to feed.
If they were just moving about in small family groups eating their way through the forest then they would not have as much contact with other deer and the disease may just burn itself out.

The wife and I cleaned out the three in the lot without the dogs in it Saturday. Shot, hung, cleaned, back straps in the freezer, and all parts in the dog barrel in 2 1/2 hours. Should save me about 4 bags of dog food. That's my kind of hunting.
