In the last 24 hours, 35 people have overdosed on some bad heroin. That number will only climb as the bad batch is sold. I suspect that it is cut with carfentanil, it is an elephant tranquilizer and is 100 times stronger than fentanyl is. A dose the size of 20 grains of salt can kill someone, even a person that has previously been exposed/addicted to opiods. There are some really scary, nasty drugs out there nowadays. My hope is that authorities can track down the source quickly. Authorities are actually telling people to destroy any recently purchased heroin. Situations like this really make legalized drugs tempting.

I know that this may seem a bit mean, inhumane, unforgiving, etc., but I tend to look at this from a Darwinistic point of view.
If you are stupid enough to buy and consume illegal, mind-altering drugs from someone that you really would not associate with in the first place, then I have little to no pity.

At that rate the drug dealers might have to look for honest work. If you trust your life to a backyard chemist what more is to be said .

Situations like this really make legalized drugs tempting. I am totally against the death penalty, but make an exception for heroin dealers. And I would like to see public hangings for them. Two thoughts here: 1. Bad batch is to run 'certain dealers' out of business so 'other dealers' can control the terrain. 2. The 'government' has tainted and released bad heroin with the goal of terminating all the junkies; IE 'cleaning the streets'. Unfortunately, those junkies are human beings, and someone hurts a lot because of their addiction, and someone out there loves them very very much. And well murder is murder! I have seen what heroin addiction does to a family; it's heart wrenching.

I have to agree with Thtwudbeme, this is purely a case of Nature weeding out the stupid.

How do they justify self infliction of a illegal drug being a health hazard . I thought a health hazard was something hard or non avoidable.

recoverysociety.org/heroin-addictive/Sugar is equally or more addictive, but it is accepted because it is not illegal or kills as quickly as heroin. authoritynutrition.com/how-sugar-makes-you-addicted/Heroin is the 'bandaid' for a much deeper problem. It's initially an 'escape' from whatever pains them. It becomes a monster that owns them. It's so sad. So many kids are lost to this drug, every year. Kids that were troubled, and kids that were star athletes, scholarship winners, etc. Heroin discriminates ZERO. It's so sad.

Alot of people that are addicted now originally got addicted to prescription pain medication for chronic pain. Their doctors stopped prescribing the pain meds and they turned to heroin to prevent detoxification pain. When the doctors cut them off, they should have been sent to treatment.

Sugar is equally or more addictive, but it is accepted because it is not illegal or kills as quickly as heroin. Seeing that your body runs on sugar, I guess you could say it is addictive. Cut out all sugar or things broken down into sugar by your body and you die. Pretty bad withdrawal symptoms.

We also have natural sugars in our fruits and such. That should be our 'treats'. We don't need 9 diet cokes with dinner. Carbohydrates are broken down into the sugar we need..... We don't need 7 sweet ice T's with lunch. I am talking about adding sugar / artificial sweeteners in everything from baby formula to ketchup and beyond. Hope that clears up what I am saying!! :-)

laurazone5, you are right, the added sugars of all kinds cause a slow death. Type 2 diabetes used to be rare, now if you walk down any hallway of a nursing home, a huge percentage, 40% or so, are diabetic. At least it's that way at the nursing home that my Grandma is in. She isn't diabetic, but she always has been very active. I remember when I became aware of how much sugar is in ketchup, I was in shock!!!!! I read labels now :-) Last count at 10 or so at night, another 15 overdoses for a total of 50. Authorities here are hoping that they got the word out in time. I hope so too, it is a bad deal all the way around.

Your body requires all of them but most can do with less.

I think it is devastating that so many people choose to use such an awful drug. Around here, the drug of choice is methamphetamine.
The thing is, people choose to use it. While I firmly believe that anyone who deals in meth or horse deals in death, the people who choose to use the drugs are the ones who are responsible for the consequences of their choice.
Sugar is not the same as heroin or meth. Our bodies need natural sugars to survive. Our bodies do not need speed or depressants to survive.
I won't try to legislate healthy choices, because that is not my place. I often work with people who are trying to get off the junk, and I will assist them because it's their choice to get sober. That is helping them with a good choice. But all the counseling and therapy in the world is not going to make someone choose to get straight. That choice has to come from within, and no amount of legislation is going to change that.

I don't think TPTB really want laws to change things .That is their cash cow.
