Thank you all, and you're very welcome. WVfarmgirl, me too. Darn goats kicking up all that dust. It made it hard to get it written down and edited. Pony!, I hope your comments are for the last two chapters and not for just Bob

bretf, what a beautiful story. Thank you so much for sharing it. You know, my 11 year old saw an open window on my computer, it was the first page of "The Ashen Horse". He is very excited to read it.

And I appreciate your insight into the female mind: "Nobody messes with my kids."

So, bretf, after all of this, you don't need me to pump sunshine up your tailbone to know you have a talent for the written word. Are you seeking a publisher or is this going to be another manuscript tucked safely into a time capsule titled "A story your great grandpappy wrote in the last century"? If so, it will have a LOT of company. No worries, Fakahwee Publications only deals with my work so I am not soliciting you to publish your work. Just giving you a reminder that if you do not do it, likely nobody else will, either. Easier to self publish than it has ever been, and the Kendall format is a gift to those who do self publish. I have a lot of work waiting in line for me to get my stuff together, yet I net a fair amount of money yearly for the stuff I publish on paper. I know that a lot of first time authors are in it because they just want to tell a story, but the stories, if well done, have value. Yours is well done. If you have more money than you know what to do with, well, God bless and carry on. If not, you might want to put in some time studying the possibilities. Thank you for the good read. ALWAYS a gift, even if one has to pay for it......Joe Here are some comments about one of my books, which I REALLY have to get re-listed. Can't recall why I took it offline years ago, but no doubt some stupid impulse....; leatherworker.net/forum/topic/19283-consignment/Oh, well, the self employed can afford to make mistakes that hourly guys get fired for on the spot......Joe

Thanks Joe,
The Good Lord willing, one of these days I'll submit to Amazon. Right now, I have a lot of balls in the air, and though I could always use more money to spend,my stories have to take a back seat to life.
One of these days though.

Ahh, summer in the arid mountain west.
Our annual sojourn to Chad’s country is this weekend. From our place we can take either of two highways to get there, before hitting the gravel, mountain road.
On Wednesday, a range/forest fire started beside one highway, and shut it down for a day and a half. It reopened with a single lane and major delays as vehicles had to follow a pilot car.
Last night (Friday) the other highway was shut down by another wildfire.
I was contemplating which way I would have the best shot at getting to the camp, checking news and the interagency fire center site, when my brother called. He went up Thursday with our parents. It seems the sheriff came calling at 12:30 at night and ordered them to evacuate. Another fire is raging and heading for our camp area. So I guess I don’t get to take a drive this afternoon after all.

Man, that's awful. I'm sorry your planned retreat will not work, but please, do stay away until things are safe there.
Please God, your camp will be spared the ravages of the fire.
