I forgot to update my story. I went to the Detroit school board meeting. They tried to make me sign in to speak, but I had looked at the rules beforehand that say it's optional, and you can address the board without identifying yourself, so I did. I only had two minutes to speak, so I didn't bother talking about the disputed versions of what happened at the football game. I focused solely on the superintendent's handling of the incident, and how he is doing those kids a disservice by making excuses for them. The board just sits there and doesn't respond to public comments until the next meeting, but a few people in the audience jeered at me once they realized what I was saying. A few others expressed agreement, though...I even heard an old lady shout "preach it, brother!" while I was talking. It was probably pointless to even bother saying anything, but it didn't cost me anything.
Several of the race hustlers were there, too. The first woman one made a good speech. It was good in that it sounded fairly reasonable and all that, but it was founded on false premises. But I believe that woman believed those lies she was told by others, so I talked to her afterward. She seemed to come around somewhat to the possibility that the story she's been fed may not be totally true, but also indicated she's entrenched in that position so it won't change.
The queen of the race hustlers, who I've mentioned a few times in this thread, stood up and screamed like a lunatic and they had to cut off the microphone because she kept going after her time was up. She has no concept of how to be taken seriously. I didn't try to speak to her.
After the meeting, out in the hallway a group of these folks were huddled up talking to the police chief...not of the city, but of the school system...yes, Detroit schools have their own police department. I overheard him assuring those folks that he was working behind the scenes to make sure the Detroit students aren't arrested. They all seemed happy about that. What they didn't seem to realize is that HE is responsible for arresting Detroit students all the time. His department is not in the schools to protect the kids from white people in the suburbs, but to protect the Detroit students from each other!
Anyway, I had a nice chat with him, too, after those folks wandered off to plot their next moves. He's a very likable guy, mild-mannered and calm, which was super nice after listening to the crazy woman screaming in the meeting. I got him to admit that there is no video of the white people saying racial slurs. The crazy people were demanding in the meeting that the video be released. I already knew it didn't exist because it would have been released immediately after it happened.
