BrewDaddy, my mom made a similar concoction that was her version of sloppy joes. She sautéed some diced onions (and maybe celery?), cooked some hamburger with it, then added a can of mushroom soup and a can of tomato soup. Served on hamburger buns. Sounds sorta gross but we kids loved it as did our friends. My kids liked it and it's a hit with my grandkids, so it must be a kid thing. I still make it once in a very rare while. I like hamburger gravy on mashed potatoes too. One of those comfort foods.

My dinner tonight was a PB&J sandwich. Not exactly gourmet but stopped the tummy growling.

My own take on this: Mashed potatoes and hamburger gravy Instant mashed potatoes (sorry - times are tough) 1 lb burger, browned 1/4 diced onion pinch of salt 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 can cream of mushroom soup water for desired consistency that can simmer for a little while and blend flavors salt/pepper/spices to taste Serve

Oh, and instant potatoes work just fine. Altho I do have 5# or so of real potatoes sitting here. I might just go all out and cook the real thing!

So are you always up this late or is your tummy growling too? Hard to go to sleep with all the rumblings going on. Trying to decide whether to ignore it, have a glass of wine, or get up and cook.

Pretty much always up this late on weekends.... Had a nice din din of Chili Colorado w/ rice earlier, but just finished off a late night snack of saltines and monterey jack cheese... I'd go with the wine and see what happens... what's the worst that could happen? You end up making mashed hamburger and mashed gravy or something??? bd

I'd go with the wine and see what happens... That's what I did, and got a decent night's sleep (almost 6 hrs 😊 ).

Spiral sliced sugar glazed ham, cheesy potato casserole, green bean casserole, and a nice salad for Easter dinner.
Normally I cook more sides for holidays, but it's only for two of us this year so just the basics will last the whole week.

That is a perfect traditional Easter meal, JTB. Well done and save me some leftovers.
We are going to India for dinner today. Or maybe the UK. Some say Tika Masala is the national dish of Britain. If you're not familiar with it, a very similar but less spicy dish called Butter Chicken is served in every American and UK Indian restaurant. There seems to be some debate as to whether Butter Chicken and Tika Masala are UK creations meant to appeal to the many Brits who returned from India, or if it is indeed Indian in origin. Regardless, it is all Indian spices and quite good with Naan and rice.
The last time I got the truck load of freebie meat, there was lamb in the mix. So in tradition with Easter, we are having lamb, even if the recipe doesn't remind anyone of The Old Rugged Cross.

Tika Masala is my gal's favorite. She's only cooked it for me once and I haven't attempted it yet, but during normal times we go out for Indian food almost every time we're in the city. Lots of Indians down around Detroit. Just before the pandemic got here, we got our first Indian restaurant within a reasonable drive, located in a mall food court of all places, but it's excellent. The folks running it are Bangladeshi, but the cuisines are pretty much the same and they call it Taste of India because Americans don't know Bangladesh. Fortunately that kind of food lends itself well to takeout so they will hopefully survive the six or more weeks of lockdown so soon after opening the new place. www.northernexpress.com/news/feature/taste-of-india-1/Anyway, we love Indian flavors. The lady always gets Chicken Tika Masala while I try something new most times. And extra naan, always! Speaking of ethnic dishes created for whities...on most Chinese menus in my area, there's Almond Boneless Chicken. No such thing in China or even a lot of the U.S. Lore has it that it was created right here in Michigan. By Chinese folks, yes, but nothing traditional about it. And it shows, as it's relatively bland for Chinese food. Not bad, just not great. www.eater.com/2018/10/30/18010390/almond-boneless-chicken-war-su-gai-michiganSimilar story about General Tso's Chicken. www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=7639868

hmmm,. I still have a good 50 pounds of potatoes.... I ought to make some authentic Bavarian ethnic cuisine. Maybe Erdaepfelmaultaschen filled with cranberries.DH likes them. Or maybe Schupfnudeln. Have not made Zwirl in a long time. If you like hashbrowns you love Zwirl. which btw is called different things in different regions. My son took me to an indian restaurant, I think it was in Denver. that was the first and last time. I understand spices like that are good for intestinal parasites.
Mother cooked mostly seasonal, this time of year there is not much fresh except stinging nettle. which we had two days ago. DH loved it. I have a good crop of it. Drats, the kohlrabi seeds I planted did not come up. must have been old seed.
Speaking of mashed potatoes, our hands down favorite was mushroom gravy over new, mashed potatoes. the two coincided. the mushrooms can not be from a can, jar or store. You get them fresh in the woods and they should consist of a decent percentage of king bolete, chanterelle, and half a dozen others. a bayleaf is a must, and sauercream and a slug of vinegar. Not too much.

Busy day today, so we forgot to thaw out any meat for meatloaf. Instead we grabbed a quart of spaghetti sauce from the pantry dated 11/20/15. Don't tell me canned food doesn't last!
