I've been thinking...there's a waterfront convenience store about 15 miles from my marina. If I take a power boat from here to there to buy a lottery ticket, is it OK because I'm engaged in procuring essentials? As long as I don't have any fun, it should be OK, right? Also day dreaming about a farmrbrown style protest. The Grand River runs past the governor's office, so maybe I should rip up and down the river on a jet ski until she notices and sends the cops after me. She'd have to take a break from her MSNBC appearances to look out the window first. My niece works for the governor at the state health department. I have been giving her a hard time about wasting her potential working for the state for the three years she's been there, but I'm definitely going to amp it up next time I see her. I really hope she had nothing to do with this nonsense. Normally her job has something to do with cancer research, but maybe it's an all hands on deck situation for the pandemic.

@jtb , I saw where the Michigan governor decided vegetable seeds and plants weren't a necessity either. Isn't she the one who banned hydroxycloroquine as a treatment in her state? Apparently she read a scientific study that said "orange man bad!" Yep, she threatened doctors and pharmacists with investigation if they prescribed or dispensed it for off label use. A week or two after that, she begged Trump to send us a bunch of it. And yep, the seeds and plants are labeled non-essential. So stupid. Wouldn't it cut down on people going to the grocery store if they grew some food at home? And our food stamp program allows buying plants and seeds. Is she trying to starve those poor people? We don't have a long growing season, so we only get one chance to get things started. I assume she will lift that restriction before the end of the month. I hope so. But I save seeds and get any new ones I want in the fall, so I'm in good shape. I'll probably start some extras this year and leave them out by the road for people to take for free. Of course that won't help the people whose livelihood depends on selling plants, who already have significant time and money invested in this year's supply. And for what purpose? To stop the congregating of people at plant nurseries? They're nowhere near as busy as grocery stores.

Actually it's "just" the garden sections in the larger stores, those over 50,000 square feet I believe. Those little carousels of seed packets are still in the hardware stores and other small venues but they are picked pretty bare.

@jtb , I made the same comment/observation this morning as I remembered seeing the lotto drawing at its regular time last night, sarcastically noting that going to the convenience store and sitting there for 30 minutes buying and scratching tickets 1 at a time, must be "essential" to the state to keep that money rolling in.

In Washington state you can not fish, hunt, go to the parks, go camping, etc. The malls etc are closed, no building trades can work, but the pot shops are all open. Guess the state and county folks got to get their weed, and they can collect the taxes on the pot sales.

"I'm not camping, I'm homeless."
"I'm not hunting, I'm grocery shopping."

Big protest in our capital today. People have had enough. The first order was fairly reasonable, but the second one was just stupid.
Now I expect the governor to keep things closed down longer than "necessary" just to assert her power and defy Trump. It may be a contest between governors of who can stay shut down the longest.

Well as of yesterday hospitals are resuming to normal duty. Bars can do delivers if booze IF a food item is also with the drink ..same for ..curb pickup but...is that o A conflict open containers in a car?
Liquor licences are revoked if they do it serve booze / shut down for more than 6weeks. It's a stupid reg. That just became very relevant.

I wonder if the olive in my martini counts as a food item.

Governor keeps "clarifying" her orders, but really only making them more confusing.
She says now that she doesn't want people driving or using motor boats because a lot of people touch gas pumps. Ridiculous. Tell everyone to wear a glove when pumping gas (I already do) or make the gas stations disinfect the pump handles often. No need for everyone to sit at home doing nothing when there's an easy solution.

Our Sheriff has voiced similar displeasure in being tasked with enforcing her loony edicts. I was out driving the other day when an oncoming vehicle gave an aggressive "cop ahead" flash of the headlights. This was the first time hand gestures were ever included out the window though. At first I thought it was a slow down signal but as I got closer I realized he was pointing out the star on his door . Thankfully he was in a good mood and kept going.

Another lunacy of my state (and probably most others): lottery sales are essential. I can't ride a jet ski, but I can still buy lottery tickets? Yup. See, people who are addicted to the endorphin rush of gambling seek it out even more when unusual stress is a factor. No different than gaining (or losing) weight from stress, or getting down to 4 cigarettes/day before the pandemic set in, or drinking early to function. Heck, one of my neighbors has stuff delivered daily, she is an admitted shopaholic and I shudder to think about her credit card statements. Even healthy coping skills like exercise/healthy diet/etc *will* be taken too far by some.

I expect Mr. DeWine to attempt to be the hold out governor. Unfortunately A beka's website keeps crashing so I can't look at curriculum for Ben next year. No idea how I'll pay for it with dh's hours cut but maybe I can sell some plants that I started from seed? God always provides 🙂

Of course this isn't reasonable but I heard Gov HalfWit talk about one of the virus survivors who was at the WH telling his story: Got the virus after he & family drove up state to summer home. Only thing he did different than rest of his family was touch the gas pump. So, see, no gas for you! Or summer homes!
