Just read on another forum that there is a recall on red, yellow, white and sweet yellow onions due to salmonella. It is widespread with 400 hundred cases so far, Oregon has been hardest hit with 71 cases. Came from a CA grower selling under 11 different brands.

Glad I have a bunch in the garden almost ready to harvest and was given a bunch at the market today too.

Glad I over planted. One more reason for a large garden.

Thanks for the heads-up. We're in the middle of processing our over abundance of red/yellow/white onions. Some canned, some dehydrated, some minced and frozen.

Dang. My onions did not do as well as I'd hoped. I'll probably stop by the local Chinamart and pick up a few bottle of dehydrated onion from their dollar spice bin. Thanks for the heads up, wildhorseluvr!

I think you're probably OK as long as you're certain they did not originate in Ca.
Thomson farms is the producer but you'd have to go to the CDC site to look up the 11 different names the onions are sold under. I'm getting to where I don't want to buy store produce anymore unless it's something to be cooked. Which sucks because I would eat green salads every single day if I could. If my workload ever slows down a bit, maybe I'll try growing some greens indoors this winter...the farmhouse kitchen and living room have some big windows. Maybe some sprouts too.

Here's the brand names: Thomson Premium, TLC Thomson International, Tender Loving Care, El Competitor, Hartley’s Best, Onions 52, Majestic, Imperial Fresh, Kroger, Utah Onions, and Food Lion. The affected onions are from May 1, 2020 until now. ceresone, on second thought, I think I'd cook those onions very thoroughly or toss them, just to be on the safe side. I'm probably going to toss mine and use dehydrated minced onion for awhile. Don't like it as well but have plenty. I'm getting tired of all these recalls.

That is interesting, I made a kidney bean salad, and chopped one of the onions in it. My stomach was cramping like mad when I read that, so I threw the salad out, but Drats, I hate to throw a big bag of onions! Better safe than sorry tho.

Have 3 cases of salmonella in my area due to these onions, so don't take any chances.

Chives will have to do until my onions get a bit bigger. in fact they will do just fine, with a bonus of some extra chlorophyll in the chive greenness.

Guess I will pitch mine, as bad as the cramps were from a few bites, won't take a chance. Nothing is staying in my stomach for long either!
