My son's best friend since grade school, and his current roommate was murdered early this morning.
We don't know all the details, but my son is devastated, as well as the young man's family.
He had a daughter, a sweet little 6 year old girl who he was very close to. Please keep his friends and family in your thoughts and prayers.

They are not sure yet what happened. Ben and another guy were both killed, rumor has it one was shot, one was stabbed, at this point, I don't know which was which, not that it matters. It took a while to notify people as neither had any ID on them, so I don't know if they were robbed, or if it was a bar fight gone bad or what. Like I say though, it really doesn't matter why or how, but folks are trying to make sense of the whole thing. Things like that aren't supposed to happen in small towns.

The company he worked for paid travel expenses, lodging and food for Ben's parents to go to Texas, and I believe the company stood the cost of his cremation, anything they can do to help. It's like the company I work for, just a real good bunch of people. My son said his little girl will be there today, she wants to spend some time by herself in her dad's room. His mom and dad will then pack up his stuff and take it and him home. My son said today will be very hard, as his family grieves, the people taking everything that was Ben out of the house. He'll be left with an empty room and the memories of his best friend. There is a service tomorrow at 3:00 in Texas, then they will all drive back to Nebraska, a 12 hour drive. Friday there will be a service here in his home town at 3:00, then a Celebration of his life at the Eagles that evening. Texas Rangers are now investigating so hopefully there will be justice.

Losing your best friend is like losing a brother or sister. Losing a child is like nothing else. Much pain here. I'm so sorry. Prayers for all.

Prayers said for all involved. Hard to find the right words other than to say this is clearly devastating right now for all, and sadly will be devasting for all his loved ones for many, many years. So sad. Praying the adults left in his daughter's life, can find the peace and strength to help fill the hole his absence will leave for her.
