.................IN 2017 I removed a side window in my large RV slideout and installed a Friedrich 12,000 Btu window unit which was actually a "Through the Wall" unit ! So , the A\C unit was built on a slide in and out metal PAN ! The metal box could be attached by screws to the wall and then the unit simply slid into the metal case ! ..................So , this summer of 2021 is the 5th. summer of this excellent A\C unit running almost 24\7 cooling my RV..........when I rece'd my $1,400 I located another Friedrich 12,000 Btu A\C unit and ordered one in case my old unit died on me ! 100 F Tx summers scare me more than Tx winters so I'm prepared for the heat.......as long AS we don't have another power outage like we HAD back in Feb this year ! ...................Actually , I'm prepared for another outage as I have a 7.5kw Champion genset ready for service should the grid go down ! I can't take the Heat @74 like I use Too when I worked outside all day building fence . , fordy

sawmilljim, I hope your problem is as easy as ours was to fix last week, just the transformer burned out. We've had some screwy electrical surges on our line that I think may have been too much for it. Early last week out in the barn the LED lights flashed on for less than a second, with the switch turned off. Never seen that before.

Extremely low on R410a those Korean/Chinese workers must been low on solder that day. Unit holds tad over five pounds. I have been slowly working on it down to ordering the material. Thinking about putting a dose of high tech stop leak in it too. Your led lights probably had a back feed from the neutral wire as 110ac will take the path of least resistance as it does the return path. Almost any voltage will power a light emitting diode. and don’t have to be polarity specific.

I don't like the new aluminum coils. I don't like the pressure the new units run under. I don't like the exorbitant cost of the new freon. Grrr...

When we moved her in '99, we bought two of those combination electric heater/AC units something like you see in a motel room and put one on each end of the old house.
When we built the new house about 10 years ago, we moved one of the units into it and put the other one in a storage shed where it still sits today. Original still grinding away.
We only heat with it in emergencies which have not happened for years, but the AC has not faltered yet, and we still got that spare.
Compared to a swamp cooler, they are costly to run, but those coolers have to be pampered all summer long and still need work in the spring. I was glad enough to be done with coolers except for the shop.....Joe

Update I got my r410a and fancy stop leak installed it using the SWAG method. At present it’s been running three hours and inside temperature is about 75 f Now to see how long it works. Think I will at some point order me a set of the right gauges. Thanks again global warming people. Air from vents is around 67 f

sawmilljim, Sorry to hear that, do you have any indication where the leak is? Could you solder a patch over it?

Epoxy paste patches holes in aluminum. Maybe hold it underwater and watch for the bubbles ...Joe How well will it hold up, with aluminum contracting and expanding?
