Swamp coolers draw about a third of the power of AC. Repairs tend to be a lot less too. Drawback to them is they loose a lot of efficiency/cooling if ambient humidity is above 30%. Thanks. I just now looked them up. Yes this area humidity is seldom that low. My last central unit ran over twenty years and was never touched as far as repair. Now the newest ones after EPA got involved are for the most part junk. I have one less than two years old, I never know from one minute to the next of it will work. Only good thing is I installed it my self

Also with the air conditioner you need to keep the house closed up tightly but with the swamp cooler you can leave the doors hang open halfway or the windows open and not have really any loss of cool air that worthwhile talking about.
Air conditioner puts out a very small amount of really really cold air but a swamp cooler puts out a lot of air that's only slightly warmer than an air conditioner puts out. Plus an AC unit subtracts humidity from dry air but swamp cooler adds it and often it's needed in the desert... Joe

I know one part of the the world has no idea idea how the other half lives. Far as I know there are no swamp cooler’s in this part of it. Wouldn’t a regular ac system be much better ? Especially if installing new ? A new A/Unit is at minimum 4 months out around here. Ceiling fans are abundant 'tho.
