How many of y'all store small engine equipment with ATF in the carb?

I don't. All my gasoline is treated with Pri-G, and when I'm putting a piece of equipment up for a long period I'll just run it dry.

Nice way to kill skeeters when you crank it up! Dad used to pour a full can of Rislone down the carb a bit at a time once in a while, and some of the neighbors swore the thick smoke would make the birds fall from the sky!....Joe

Not me, but I do spray fogging oil in the spark plug hole and give the rope a couple of pulls to lube the cylinder and rings.
I use ATF in the hydraulic system for my snowplow.

This week I had a manufacture rep in my shop for a company called primrose. He did a demo for one of the products they make called phaser 3000, it's a fuel stabilizer that reverses fuel phase separation. His demo was pretty convincing. I think it would work well for something that you can't get all the old gas out of, or just as a fuel conditioner. I found a guy doing a demo of the product on the youtube.

Made me put on one of those nostalgia smiles a yard wide! I used to be an auto parts and equioment jobber sales man in the 60's and 70's, and we sold Penray brand chemicals. Had a demo kit almost identical to that one for their gasline antifreeze, but our demo included proving that HEET gasline antifreeze was inferior, because water in the gas along with HEET made a clabbered up mess. Put in the gas and some water, it seperated, but then put in some Penray and it all blended together....BUT! a bit more experimenting showed that if you kept adding more drops of water even with the Penray in there, pretty soon ALL of the water seperated out and made an even bigger mess. Small difference of one kind of alcohol was the HEET, another kind was the Penray, but either kind prob'ly sold for pennies per gallon when you bought a boxcar load like the chemical companies did. We played around with it and tried methol, isopropal, ethel, I dunno how many kinds and it all behaved a bit differently from one another, but it dang sure all cost MANY times less than the heet or the penray, even though the alky was the only thing in either product. I guess that is why I could sell you $18 worth of Penray and then give you a free $16 Brownie camera free as a premium with the sale .....Joe

..................Back when I was driving my 1999 , f250 7.3 diesel , they cut the sulphur content of diesel way , way down ! So , every time or every other time I'd fill up I start adding a quart of 2 cycle oil to my tank ! ..................At 115,000 miles I had some work done by the dealer and he had checked my injectors and said they were operating like they had fewer miles than 115k ! I suppose he was going to tell me I might need a new set of injectors ! I told him about the 2 cycle oil and he just shook his head ! I don't think he wanted to associate my "injector" longivity to 2 cycle engine oil ! But , he couldn't explain why they were in good shape , either ! ...................Adding 2 cycle oil to newer engines along with their Monkey Pee probably wouldn't work very well ! , fordy

fordy, that engine was designed to run 400-500,000 miles with minimal maintenance. At 115k, it was just getting broke it. I doubt the 2 cycle oil did anything extra. The dodge and ford diesel trucks of that era are kind of sought after today. The Chevy 6.0 gas engine is also a high mileage engine used in bigger pickups to bread trucks. Chevy can't make a good diesel, and they had the chance at offering the IH or Cummins years ago.

Niece's husband has a commercial glass company in Florida. He also does high-end bathroom work ($15,000 showers and such).
His little fleet is a half-dozen Chevy crewcabs with the 6.2L. Gas mileage sucks, but those motors have consistently given him 200k with no trouble.
He got a new truck in this week, with the 6.6 (all he could get). He's biting his fingernails, hoping it's as good.
Why, when GM makes something pretty good, do they have to screw it up?

"Why, when GM makes something pretty good, do they have to screw it up?"
So they can sell you a new one when the old one dies. Planned obsolescence.

I can't figure out why Pri-G and Pri-D aren't available in auto parts stores, only online. A couple years ago I was tempted to get in touch with them and offer my services as a rep getting them into retailers, but figured with my age they wouldn't be interested.
I'd think a fairly young person with experience setting up distribution networks could make just a whole lot of money for himself and them. Wouldn't take much, some nice counter displays like Stabil, some long days cold calling, and probably inside of a couple years have a nationwide network of reps working for you.

Kroil penetrating oil is another top notch product that isn't stocked in stores. I was elated to find a full can of it at a garage sale for a dollar.

...............Speaking of Obsolesence , I was reading an article about the design of the Russian Mig-23 , the swing wing hot rod flown by the Russian airforce and others ! It seems the Russian's wanted to perform maintenance on their planes so they designed the engine to last for 150 hours . So , once the hour meter rolled over to 150 the engine had to be returned and rebuilt ! , fordy

So , once the hour meter rolled over to 150 the engine had to be returned and rebuilt ! , fordyRussian mindset. Read up on the lifespan of a T-34 in WW2. They were built for 12 hours of combat operations, but rarely made that number. The Soviets used them in waves, many times without infantry support and the crew casualty rate was 75%. Even Soviet aircraft of the period had the same mindset. Many engines needed overhauling at the 2 hour mark. As Stalin said, they wanted quantity, which has a quality all of its own...
