Have a few flowers starting to bloom. Outside of a few things like roses, sunflowers and dandelions, I don’t really know one flower from another. Can someone ID these for me? I assume the yellow one is a daffodil, and the tiny purple ones in the first photo might be violets? I want to move or toss most of these flowers and plant veggies in that bed. I’ve read that violets are next to impossible to get rid of? Sounded like they might cohabitate peaceably with asparagus though…guess I could live with that. Can the rest just be dug up and replanted elsewhere? There are a LOT of whatever these are…like the whole bed is covered with them. 😕 Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

The little purple ones are actually called Low Land Locus, formally known as: PainIn TheButticus. They get into everything... bd p.s. I actually have no idea what they are, just wanted to make the joke....

BrewDaddy, I suspect getting rid of these things is going to be a real pain.

Thank you, fixitguy. I think that’s it, although I can’t find the exact match to my purple flower, so many varieties! Definitely on the right track though… Bad news is except for the tulips and daffodils, most of these are invasive plants. All kinds of nasty chemicals recommended to get rid of them, can’t do that and use that bed for veggies. Guess I’ll just have to keep digging them up every year.

If you plan on using the area for vegetables, till it up now. The bulbs should get tilled up or come to the surface. Just replant bulbs you want this fall.

Well, that will be a challenge, and yes, my plan is to grow veggies. I don’t have a tiller and would be unable to use one. Can’t really dig it all up by hand either, at least not more than a small section at a time. It’s a raised bed, maybe 2.5 to 3 ft front to back, and the width of my back yard. I’m probably not going to be able to do more than loosen it up some, remove some of the soil and add some compost and new soil or something. Not the correct way to do things but without a new back and without help, I’m just going to have to do what I can. I’d like to start an asparagus patch in one section on the far left. Will remove as many bulbs as possible, maybe move to another area this fall.

Only my driveway and trails are showing....I have 2 foot of snow everywhere and my ski slope from my driveway is 10 feet high over 50 feet long and 12 to 14 feet wide.
I have no pretty flowers...

Wish I could send you some, paisley2! The red tulip has turned into 5 or 6 blooming today. More grape hyacinths are starting to bloom, including here and there all over the yard (not in beds). It looks like I have a few rose bushes and there’s a few other things I have no idea what they are. I’ll just enjoy the flowers and start digging them up as they quit blooming. What the heck do I do with the bulbs once I dig them out? Are they supposed to be dug up every year and replanted? Obviously they’ve had zero care for 2-3 yrs and survived just fine. I’m not going to keep all of them but can probably move some to containers in the front yard. Or plant them alongside the house. The red tulips and yellow daffodils would definitely add some color.

When we moved here 23 years ago the "flower bed" in front of the house was a mess of everything you could think of from bulbs and Rose of Sharons to unidentifiable somethings. We cleaned them out, jerking the big RoS out with a chain. Threw the bulbs over to where our compost pile is now, and they're still there blooming every year.
