There has been a major upsurge in heroin use, I suppose it is just a coincidence that since we have been in Afghanistan that opium production has greatly increased. I wonder where it all goes?

laurazone5 , you are right, the added sugars of all kinds cause a slow death. Type 2 diabetes used to be rare, now if you walk down any hallway of a nursing home, a huge percentage, 40% or so, are diabetic. At least it's that way at the nursing home that my Grandma is in. She isn't diabetic, but she always has been very active. I remember when I became aware of how much sugar is in ketchup, I was in shock!!!!! I read labels now :-) Last count at 10 or so at night, another 15 overdoses for a total of 50. Authorities here are hoping that they got the word out in time. I hope so too, it is a bad deal all the way around. I think that being active can help, but I don't think that being active can prevent diabetes. I just read of a guy who was active his entire life: sports, physically demanding work (landscaping), married with children, etc., yet he developed type 2 diabetes in his early fifties. I think diabetes also has genetic and eating habits components to it. A diet too high in animal fats and processed sugars is not ideal. Also, there is nothing one can do about their genetics.

I don't think TPTB really want laws to change things .That is their cash cow. Exactly. Not only do they rake in the big bucks, but they also can eliminate their "enemies" by trumping up charges to lock them up and toss away the key.

I was just trying to point out that with the typical American diet, with processed food and lots of unnecessary sugar, will lead to diabetes in alot of cases. I do think genetics has to do with things too, it is the children of the people that first ate processed food, that hqve higher rates of diabetes.

Everybody needs to eat a well balance diet that include fresh foods like fruit meats and vestibules.I stay away from processed foods because of the sugar salt and saturated fat they have. I have type two diabetes and read the ingredients on anything I buy. When you do it for the first time take a calculator along and you will be surprised at how much you eat.

Every couple of days, there's a young person in the obit column with no reason as to why they passed. Some will put - due to a traffic accident; long battle with cancer or something else. When there's no reason given, I tend to think it was drugs, especially when the charity to donate to is an animal charity or a rehab-type place. The other day, there was a huge heroin drug bust here. www.mcall.com/news/breaking/mc-n-allentown-furniture-store-580k-heroin-bust-20161005-story.html
