I saw film of the looting after Katrina, guys stealing beer, TV sets, all kinds of strange stuff, but one guy was walking calmly through all of the caos, looking neither right nor left at all of the exposed goodies, clutching his great big overpack of rolls of toilet paper.
Man knew what he wanted and would NOT be distracted by the frivolus.
I also was reading another homesteading site, years ago, and one guy claimed he was going to be truly self suffiecient within 6 months, in the Sonoran desert. Somebody else told him he could not truly be self suffiecient until he had raised his second crop of toilet paper from the seeds of the first crop.
I guess you can do that with corn cobs, but it's a hard, hard way to live....Joe

joebill, Have you noticed outhouses have nearly disappeared since Sears & Roebuck stopped sending out catalogs? Being the preppers we are, we've got a reasonable supply of lye. A neighbor noticed the stack and asked about it. Rather than explain it was for a potential need for an outhouse, I just explained it was very handy for getting rid of bodies. Maybe that was the wrong choice.
