I was doing pretty good hunting Feral Hogs but now they won't let us legally hunt them on any Public Land. First it was just MDC land now it is COE and MTNF Lands.

@rebelman, that's strange. Feral hogs are a nuisance animals, sort of like armadillos, any idea what their reasoning is? I would seem like a "shoot on sight" rule ought to be in effect.

Their reasoning is if you just shoot a few, that makes them scatter and range further. They want you to call them, and they will trap and destroy the complete herd. What seems strange to me is that living in a poverty state, more aren't killed and eaten. Free food on foot? Several has said they trap and feed grain for a month, and taste is no different. Now, a old boar. Never get the boar taste out.

I made the mistake telling my Taxidermist where I was hunting before long every one in the country was in there running them with Dogs my hunting went down hill.
Me and the MDC has been in to it over this. Thing is they are getting millions to eradicate these Hogs which will never happen because they get too much and they have no interest in doing away with their Golden Hogs. No hunting on Public Land was part of the deal to get the money.
They say it worked in Kansas I told them this isn't Kansas it is Missouri a whole different ball game.

My memories of Kansas and Missouri are that in Kansas you could climb in the truck bed and sandbag off the roof of the cab, shoot hogs as far as the rifle and your squeeze can reach, but in most of Missouri you really can't see that far from all of the folds in the land and the vegetation. Kansas for snipers and Missouri for sneaks.... …..Joe

We were just gifted with some feral hog sausage. Well, I think it's feral hog.
ANYway, has a strong but not unpleasant flavor, and it was very nice of the neighbor to share.

when ever I have wild boar, I make pulled pork with it. Smoking it will hide the strong flavors. But what I mostly do is put it in a big oven safe pot, add about a cup of ACV, a ton of garlic, lots of salt and pepper. Cook it in the oven on 250 for hours until it is fork tender.
Growing up with North Carolina based family, our sauce of choice is sour. I use 1/4 cup de-fatted drippings from the pot, 1 cup ACV, 1 cup ketchup, more garlic, sugar, salt, and pepper to taste, a tablespoon or two of Worcestershire sauce, a few dashes of tobasco to taste, heat until everything is dissolved and you're ready to go.

When I had a cabin in SE Oklahoma I had some very interesting neighbors, none real close, but close enough to converse every now and then. One neighbor raised hogs, and every fall would turn them out to forage acorns to fatten them up. Another neighbor had an unfenced (not that it would have made a difference) garden. The neighbor with a garden was a Choctaw lady about 80 years old, and still fierce. She built a very hard fenced area in her yard near the garden where she'd plant turnips. Oh yeah, she'd put at least one hog in her freezer every year, sometimes give another one or two to her kin. I never told the guy with the hogs his money saving fattening was a story of diminishing returns.
Who could blame the lady? Hogs tearing up my place would be considered fair game too.
