Found this list on Abe Books. I've read a few of them, some I refuse to read (like Hunger Games) and some are going on my list.

@pony, I might sound stupid but I am going to ask. What is the difference in Dystopian and Post Apocalyptic fiction? I looked at your list and I have only read about 4 of those listed. But I have read many books in this genre.

I can't say for sure, Dodges Mammaw, but in my mind, Dystopian lit sets up a dark, hopeless world. In some of the novels, the protagonists move toward hope and health and get their acts together. In others, everyone sinks into the quagmire. It can be post-apocalypse, or events in an entirely different world. Post apocalyptic lit is usually life after one singular, world-altering, catastrophic event.

Pretty much nailed it Pony, Dystopian is a dark generally future place degenerate or authoritarian society, Diseased world or in the years after an apocalyptic event whereas post apocalyptic is right after EMP, Bomb, Virus and dealing with the aftermath

TxGal Population in the support towns to small to support the much larger city, insufficient people for a properly diverse genetic base. Massive level of technology supported by one hand dug coal mine and unaffected once the mine is destroyed.....

I've actually read quite a few of those. Whatcha got against the Hunger Games, Pony? I've been avoiding it since my MIL shared a bit of it with me. Seems too close to possiblity, and too many folk insisting that "it's just fiction, it could never happen here...."
Is the writing any good? I don't want to lose IQ points like I did with that poorly written fantasy, DaVinci Code.
Meh, maybe I should go ahead and read it.

It's a quick read. The writing's not complex, it's young adult fiction. I would have liked a little more plot/character development but all in and all a good story and a required read for my high schoolers. It is already beginning to happen. We may not be sending off children to fight in an arena but society is definitely sacrificing them on some weird intolerant tolerance acceptance diversity alter. The drag queen library reading comes to mind.

Heck, I should stop at the used book store next town over. We have a credit of over $300 there. LOL
