Well, she's going to jail for a week.

Our governor has issued new restrictions on businesses reopening.
Our sheriff announced yesterday that the Sheriff's Dept will not be citing/arresting any business owners who decide to reopen, despite the lockdown. Basically said it's a free country and we need some common sense. 👍🏻

The judge gave her "the keys to the jailhouse" as he put it...all she had to do was fake apologize for her disrespect toward the government and promise to stay closed a couple more days until the governor's order is lifted, and he would only fine her, no jail. She said she couldn't do that.
I guess I have to respect that, but I can't say I would have made the same decision. As ornery and anti-government as I am, I'd probably lie and say I'm sorry just so I could go home.
Ironically, the governor's announcement about reopening salons was during her trial, and he used the exact words she had provided to his office two weeks ago about the standards for safety to be followed.

Here's where I doubt her motivation just a bit, though....
She testified under oath that she had no other choice but to open her business to feed her kids. Then a few minutes later she testified she hasn't made any money since March 21st because she's not charging her stylists rent, which is how she makes her money. So how is she feeding her kids?
I agree with the principle of "gotta feed my kids" but it seems like they're getting by without their regular incomes. They raised over $100k in their Go Fund Me, but that's only for legal expenses.

Maybe she had food on hand or family helping out for a limited time, and now she needs the money for groceries or a house payment. The smart/easy thing would be to apologize and walk away from the whole mess. Given the same choice, I honestly don't know what I would do.

No it won't go away probably ever, but if everyone cooperates with what their states are asking them to do, there would be way less spreading of the virus.
Georgia's Mayor was on TV today. They opened a few days ago, with distance restrictions and masks. They showed groups of people walking, on benches, at picnic tables, no masks, no distancing. I don't want to stay home forever. I do have common sense though.
If someone is not wearing a mask and all are told to, then they are putting me and all others in harms way. How many of those people are spreading the virus in the nail salons, tattoo shops, barbers etc.
I thank God that Cuomo is an intelligent man and is only opening parts of NY that started the virus first and their numbers are all down. Still to get a hair cut etc. but with masks on. This is the least I can do to help others, wear a mask!

She's still not charging her stylists rent, though. If she needed the money, she could charge them the normal rate since they have been making over $1,000/day in tips from people coming from all around to support the rebel salon.
I don't have any idea about her finances, but I know the guy who lives with her has resources, although he got divorced last year so that probably set him back. I'd help if I thought anyone in my family was going hungry (my grand-nephew lives with them part-time) but so far they've only solicited donations for their legal fees. They've got that covered.

Governor and attorney general on her side. So I guess it's just the city and county she's battling now.

We left Dallas County 23 years ago, but both City of Dallas and Dallas County elected officials were being elected even then by denizens of deep urban areas. I remember one County Commissioner, I believe his name was John Wiley Price, who was just about the most racist black man I've ever seen. Inciting problems where no problems existed just to get his face in front of cameras to complain about some imagined injustice. Don't know if he's still around, but if the County Commission is made up of his ilk, it explains a whole lot.

I think she did the right thing, and I applaud her.
Why should she lie to that horrible judge?
And again, I ask, if she and her client are aware of the minute possibility of one or the other contracting Wuhan Flu while at the beauty parlor, why does anyone else care? It's not like they're infected and hocking loogies all over the produce section of the grocery store.
It comes down to basic stuff: Wash your hands. Avoid sick folk. MYOB.

I wouldn't say she should, only that I probably would. I respect her willingness to take the punishment. It'll also give her more credibility as a freedom fighter when she gets out, assuming she doesn't give in before the week is up...judge said the offer still stands if she apologizes he'll let her out. Maybe she'll spin this into a new career. Her and nephew are in a band together. Maybe they'll go on a freedom music tour.
As for me, I value my physical freedom more than philosophical freedom. Going to jail is the opposite direction from what's most important to me. Not ideal but they gots more guns than I does, so those are the options.

who was asking about covid dichotomies? California releases a convicted child molester because it is too dangerous to leave him in jail while New York will not arrest and detain anyone for felonies while Texas jails a barber because it is too dangerous to let her cut hair. I'm going to have to have what David! is having before any of this makes sense.
