The statue of Columbus outside city hall is going to be removed. And there is a petition to rename Columbus. "Flavortown" is on the petition as the new name.

The remark I made is not safe for this site.
There is a blue cloud in my living room.
And WTH is "Flavortown" supposed to mean?

On the Food Network show, Diners, Drive-in, and Dives, Guy Fieri says that he is going to Flavortown when ever he finds a particularly tasty meal.

There is a show called 'Diners, Drive-ins and Dives', about restaurants all over the country. The guy that does the show is named Guy Fieri and when something tastes really good he calls it "Flavortown". He was born in Columbus. 25,000 signatures so far. I am really hoping that a reasonable person started it as a joke, just to show the stupidity of the country right now.

Huh, I dunno either. The world's getting crazier by the minute. Only thing I could think of was remembering how Columbus' crew were getting antsy when they had been out at sea longer than they thought it would take and how they also brought STD's to the New World when they arrived - the gift that keeps on giving. Maybe "Flavortown" was the nickname of the red light district back in Spain or Portugal?

Okay, Christoper Columbus, maybe not the first, but the most recognized discoverer of the Americas. His "discovery" lead the eventual society we have today, and this country. The only country whose Constitution has spread around the world and freed more people, brought them out of poverty/starvation, and changed the world's previous order of royal hierarchy.
Was he perfect? Did he have any idea of what atrocities might be done due to his discovery? No to both. He was a man of his time, with all the faults and sins that have been rightfully attributed to him, but the one almost saintly act that led human civilization out of the darkness of its previous world should be judged as overbalancing any mistakes he might have made.
Imagine those people tearing down his statue really understanding the world they'd be living in without the eventual outgrowth of his discovery. Absolutely none of the freedoms they now enjoy would be available to them. Their very existence would be miserable beyond belief under the old social order.
It reminds me of the people who go to the internet to create havoc over "cultural appropriation", okay, let's say we agree. Step away from your white invented keyboard, and pick up a couple sticks and a hollow log to voice your complaint.

The statue of Columbus outside city hall is going to be removed. And there is a petition to rename Columbus. "Flavortown" is on the petition as the new name. You must live near me. *sigh* They were actually going to live stream the statue being removed until they found out how long it was going to take.

How many times do we really need to watch city workers try to find the right wrench??

The statue was removed earlier this week. I am so glad that the children already saw it.
