I’ll be having a CT scan this morning, which is no big deal...except when they inject the contrast dye. Just one more thing I react to, which makes it difficult for me to breath and I can barely make it to the end of the test. Not fun.

You will be in my prayers now and throughout my day wildhorseluvr ... Thank you! They decided I didn’t need the whole works this time...didn’t have to have the dye injection this time. 🙂 Talked to the tech afterwards and he said to make sure my previous reaction is put in my chart as they probably shouldn’t try that again. Apparently if you react the first time it may be worse the next time . Anyhow, glad I didn’t have to deal with that this morning.

Had that stuff pumped into me one time in the hospital for a never-resolved-diagnosed abdominal problem that just appeared one time...
On a starvation diet for 3 days, then red jello for a day... pumped me with the dye stuff for a test, it made me sooooo nauseous I just started hurling everywhere, spewing red all over creation, and me and the tech thought it was blood and I was gonna die in moments...
But nope, just raspberry jello.....
[Edit to say Congrats that it wasn't the ordeal you thought it may be]

The dye didn’t make me sick...although what I had may not be the same as what you were given. I had an IV and they injected it into the IV. Said it might make me feel warm, which it did...no big deal. What sucked was feeling like I had an elephant sitting on my chest and not being able to get hardly any air. The longer it went on the worse it got and they kept telling me to hang on because they were almost done. I didn’t freak out but was getting very close to that point. Today was much better and much quicker...procedure only took maybe 10 minutes? 🙂 Last time it was closer to an hour, with the dye given part way through the procedure.

Not my bailiwick, but X-Ray contrast dye is Iodine-based. Some folks are allergic, and if they think the patient really needs the contrast, they give steroids before and after.

Is the dye the same as used in myelograms? I’ve had very bad reactions to myelograms but I’ve been told they don’t use that dye any more.

Not my part of the world...I think the dye is also Iodine-based, but don't take that as gospel.
