We have at least two local power companies. One is 23 miles from me, the other about 8. I'm connected to the one that's 23 miles, while my son's workplace is on the one in town, 8 miles away. As far as I know, these 2 companies have nothing in common, except shared powerlines.
In 25 years, unless storms knocked down poles or lines, we've never had power outages in both places at the same time. Yesterday we all lost power - twice. Our power was only out for a few seconds the first time and about 2 minutes the second time. The power in town flickered the first time, but was out for 3 hours the second time.
We've had pretty steady rain lately, but not enough to cause power outages. When the power was out yesterday, it was sunny, although it did rain again in the evening.
Someone told my son that the power outages were statewide. Why would this be happening? Kentucky has lots of small power companies, but not huge one, as far as I know. I don't get it.

Interconnected grid + demand?

We had power outages last winter. Customers for both companies were effected, but not everyone with either company. I had power, while many nearby did not. I put out the word that anyone who needed a place to stay, food, a shower, or to do laundry was welcome to come here.

Don't say that too loud....we are looking at moving to KY. While we are capable of doing without power for extended periods of time, I don't need Hubs thinking their power grid is being compromised.

Our power keeps going out. It's been out 5 times in the past week, but only for a few minutes at a time. Just long enough to mess up the clocks. We haven't even had any bad weather. Not sure what is going on.
