WOW. I got chills just reading it. And that's a PERFECT answer to the next anti-gun smartazz who asks, " Why would you ever need more than a 5 shot .22 rifle to go hunting?" Um.....cuz you are ALWAYS at the top of the food chain, pal!.

Saying the bear had multiple tatoos from previous human encounters..?? Possible reloacated Yellowstone bear with multiple bad habbits..?? A relatively new learned instinct being that gun shots means a gut pile or dead game animal available.. Goodie two shoes condo people getting legislation to stop, restrict predator hunting that keeps predators wary of humans.. A number of bad situations coming together to be a no win for anyone.. Especially the animals..
Ever so tired of seening the same type headline with the seeming deer in the headlight shocked look, like this is the first time this has happened.. Of course it isn't the first time.. People just done't remember, learn from the last time... If or when the media chooses to put the info out.. We have all the above situations up here also..

I have had 4 very close encounters with bears...all Black Bears...and by close I mean within spitting distance.
2 walked away.
One I screamed at and chased away (I was bow hunting and had fewer options). He just would not clear out of my space...but the wind was such that he did not know I was 20 feet away.
One I shot and killed. Hit him with a rifle. He ran off. I followed up and oops! He wasn't dead. Came at me and I killed him with my Glock.
I don't want to do any of that with a Grizzly! They are another animal altogether, I think!
I plan to be back in Montana this fall hunting Elk. Will have 180gr flat-nosed solids in the Glock. And 300gr AccuBond's in the .375 H&H.

Whenever I read or hear a bear story I think of the joke I heard one time.
A guy was telling some folks about happening across a grizzly in the woods, and outrunning it back to his car. Someone called him out, saying "now that's a darn lie, bears can run 35 miles per hour". To which the guy replied "maybe, but see, I was running on a DRY track".
