My Grandma continues to be in good spirits, but it seems that the little, country, nursing home is not giving her good care. Before anyone jumps on me, I was a CNA for several years. I cared for many patients with broken hips. In my experience, patients with broken hips absolutely should not be in bed all day. Being bedbound(except for therapy and potty trips) leads to weakness, fragility, and death. We always got our residents up, dressed, then they went to therapy and breakfast. Then AM activities, usually Bible study. Then a short break to read the paper, then lunch. Another short break then PM activity, usually craft time at 2:00 pm. Then a break between 3:00 and 5:00 when dinner was served. At 6:00, there was an evening activity, usually a church group. That lasted until 7:00 or so, then it was time to get ready for bed.
My Grandma is currently in bed ALL DAY. They don't take her out of her room for meals or activities. This is a bad place, right? The people at the facility promised so much, but they are not keeping their word. She is in bed all day. I am so worried for her. Please continue to pray.

My father-in-law developed huge blood spots on his heels from laying in bed after breaking his hip. They didn't put compression socks on him, and we didn't see it until we got him home. It could have turned very bad it we hadn't caught it. themotherhen,

Thanks Tom. We are having a care plan meeting tomorrow, hopefully that will go well. We got her out of bed ourselves today, and took her to the dining room for lunch then sat with her in the hallway, looking out into the courtyard. The nurse was annoyed that she wasn't in bed when it was 'medicine time'.
