I’d assumed after the Covid mess died down the shrink-flation would slow down a bit. Nope. Not only are prices continuing to rise weekly, the sizes keep shrinking. I buy packages of dried fruit at BiMart…cranberries, apricots, etc. I buy these frequently enough that I notice changes. Recently I mentioned to DD that not only did the price keep going up, the last time I’d bought a couple packages it seemed like the weight was less. Checked one of my previous packages at home and yep, the new one was smaller. So a few days ago the dried fruit was on sale so I grabbed a couple more packages. They felt even lighter. Checked the weight and they were about 1/3 pound smaller than my last purchase. ☹️ It isn’t just the fruit, it’s nearly everything. You really see the changes in boxed goods but canned goods are just as bad. Sometimes the cans get smaller, sometimes it’s the same size can but if you check the weight, it’s less. Won’t be long until a dozen eggs becomes only 10.

But the "experts" are telling us that inflation is less now! You believe them, don't you? Well, don't you??? lol

Inflation is hidden in the government when the compare product by the package...not the price per ounce.

At the hardware/feed store the other day I laid a package of trim-head screws on the checkout counter. The cashier asked if I was bring the pack back. I said no, I was buying them. Her response was that the pack looked half empty, and didn't think that was a pack they'd sell. Same price, half contents.
When the administration does their happy dance that last month's inflation was "only" 3%, they neglect to tell you that 3% is on top of all the other months of higher inflation. That's not 3% over last year, or the year before, that's just over the previous month. Look at all the months of, by their numbers, 7% month after month. It's not dissimilar to compounded interest of credit cards, it just builds on itself.
They'll never tout the year over year inflation rates, they'd never be reelected.
Just a reminder: They estimate the inflation rate not considering food or energy, for a reason.

My DD says about all she does at work lately is change prices. The store manager told me they usually change a few prices each week, now it’s everything constantly. Add in the shrinking sizes and it really does a number on the budget.

Yep, Covid was the beginning, and it wasn't ever going to end when the virus did. Think of it as a Social expertiment that exceeded all expectations. You think they will stop it before finding out how far they can go?

At the beginning of Covid........the experiment failed. We WERE all in this together. Folks making masks, buying meals, caring for others, etc.
Then they had to up the ante.
George Floyd. Mission, accomplished.

The seasonal sales and loss leaders are far and few now. It's coming back ever so slightly.

I can’t drink coffee w/o a substantial amount of creamer and usually stock up on Coffee-Mate when on sale. A few weeks ago DD brought me some from Costco and stuck them in my fridge. I opened one of the new creamers this morning and the container seemed light and not the usual size. Yep, not by just a few ounces either…the old one was 64 oz, the new one is 56! 😡 That’s a considerable difference.
I know these creamers aren’t healthy but have been unable to find anything else that will prevent the coffee from tearing my stomach up, and the substitutions are likely just as bad and just as expensive. Guess my days of coffee drinking are coming to an end soon.

My friend at church this morning was telling us about the club crackers. The box had gotten smaller in the past year, but this past week it was even smaller than before and the price was still the same

Mt. this afternoon so I checked the half gallon of Coffeemate containers , and IT is still listed as 64 ounces ! The Qts are still holding at 32 ounces ! ................A half gallon of Coffeemate costs $6.88 , and a Qt. is $4.32 ! I , like you , can't enjoy my Drug of choice without Cmate ! , fordy

fordy, the 64 oz size at our one and only grocery store is around $8, which is why I stock up the few times I get to Costco or Winco. I’d undoubtedly have noticed the size difference at Costco but DD was shopping for me and didn’t notice. I have a doctor appt tomorrow so if we stop at Winco I’ll check sizes and prices there. Maybe it’s just Costco that changed sizes.
