BEND, Oregon (AP) — Public health officials in Oregon have reported a case of bubonic plague in a local resident who they said likely contracted it from a pet cat.

All close contacts of the person and the cat have been contacted and provided medication, Dr. Richard Fawcett, the health officer for Deschutes County, said in a statement last week.

Been watching that, that’s the general area I used to live in. Supposedly they’re not too concerned about it. Wonder where that cat came from and how long the cat’s been infected?   Was it a rescue and from where? Had exposure to fleas? (Shouldn’t be an issue this time of year unless the house has fleas.) Exposure to rodents would be a high possibility, it sounds like they have treated neighbors and their pets as well. Big question for me would be is anything being done to eliminate rodents and fleas in the area?
