I'm just full of upbeat news lately, aren't I?
Nobody knows what's really going on in China, too many contradictory statements vs actions. They're predicting 6.9% growth, but the numbers don't add up. They've been the linchpin of the commodities market for a couple decades, and commodities are tanking worldwide. Take a look at the numbers, and see what you think.
Economic Statistics
China export trade: -8.8% year to date China import trade: -17.6% year to date China imports from Australia: -27.3% year over year Industrial output crude steel: -3% year to date Cement output: -3.2% year over year Industrial output electricity: -3.1% year over year China Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index: 49.8 (below 50 is contractionary) China Services Purchasing Managers Index: 50.5 (below 50 is contractionary) Railway freight volume: -17.34% year over year Electricity total energy consumption: -.20% year over year Consumer price index (CPI): +1.6% year over year Producer price index (PPI): -5.9% year over year, 43 consecutive months of declines China hot rolled steel price index: -35.5% year to date Fixed asset investment: +10.3% (averaged +23% 2009-2014) Retail sales: +10.9% the slowest growth in 11 years Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index: -30% since June
Are these actions and statistics consistent with a country thought to be growing at 6.90% annually?

I think China has been fudging their economic numbers for years. I wonder how much of that steel and concrete they've used the last few years went into those ghost cities I've read about (and saw pictures of)? Our government "adjusts" economic numbers all the time to get results they want and I see no reason the Chinese couldn't or wouldn't do the same.

Indeed. The inscrutable Chinese play their cards close to their chests.
We're more blatant about it, because no one seems to give a flying flip at a rolling donut. "Lie to me; I love it."
Truth means nothing any more.
War is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength.
