So I'm a life long resident of my town, county. I know the fella who was our state rep for our district for many years. He is still involved in community and political groups in the area, although not in office right now.
He called me today and said Americans for Prosperity is willing to put on a 6 week training starting November. One night a week for 6 wks, held at local restaurant, eat free meal, get about 1hr -1.5hr instruction. The focus is how to be involved in helping a candidate get elected, campaign information, etc. I know one session would be on social media strategies.
They need enough response to go through with it, so they're supposed to send me an email and ask if I would participate. Knowing the restaurant they are using, probably anywhere from 10 to 30 people. Don't know what their benchmark is for "enough."
I am curious enough and like to get information. I would like to see how much integrity is in their training, how they propose reacting to negative campaigning (I hate that neg stuff, and the ding dongs who fall for it without doing any research of their own).
Lastly, I figure the information couldn't hurt anyone's own knowledge of how to market one's self, since I am in a sales related role, so why not?
What would you all do?

that's is what our group does .. Fyi.... could be your character, life choices caught someone's eye.. this could be a great thing for your community. I've read your post and would like to see people like you and a lot of others here getting involved. One thing leads to another. We cannot give up. Time to get real people of valor especially folks that say.... why me... I'm not special I'm a plain Jane just living the best I can with what I got. Slowly things are getting better for us..but I'm not a rocket scientist.

paisley, cool, I didn't know you had a group. Is it local for your area? state wide?
Now, understand, this would not be for me for any office. Everyone who knows me realizes I wouldn't last 10 minutes without my mouth taking me out.
I have, however, helped candidates with their local "get out the vote" and stuff like that, many times. I'd like to have some knowledge that might help that.
We have a school board shake up going on right now that will get resolved in a few weeks. Honestly, the 2 out of 3 new ones I am voting for are registered democrats. However, they are better suited to replace the establishment minions that are the problem right now.

From everything I know about Americans for Prosperity, they're a pretty good grass roots organization, somewhat akin to the Tea Party but organized.
As to helping someone get elected, a candidate opposing our worthless Rep. Billy Long asked if I'd volunteer in my county. I said I would, but it almost seemed like assisted suicide of his soul. I explained most all politicians are decent people when they leave for DC, but is seems like all that decency just gets sucked out of them up there.
I've never been a joiner, the army broke me of that, but if I were to join a group AFP would be a good one.

That's hard there is no guarantee.
Really right now, we are getting some good results. One is two years plus is office. Never ran before but we met him where he was on the same side of the issue we were. He spoke well and did his homework.
He, one his own went to all the government's meets and spoke out. Well, we took him for coffee... got to know him.. two years later in his area a fool was up for 're election. We had 10 months and asked him to run. We got a yes.
We already have radio contacts Our own professional sign maker And boots on the grounds workers Three writer ...I am the short bite person Catch phrase person.. We had a state wide email list we keep current. Create a political group regarding with apoc..our election board.
Oh we have accountants too. Once approved.. shoot out an email Introducing the person via email with An endorsement from the group. Funds come in and we are in a campaign.
That stage one. We hold meeting for meet and greets.. also anyone we work with agrees to represent the people and we get folks in their area to agree to fund big weekly meeting with between the person and people in his district.coffee is cheap. We send someone from the group in the beginning say first six months after that it's phone calls as the elected represents his district not our group. Odd, I know but we do not want to own the public servant. Read get now we have three out of nine next year we should gain one more I know... it's my guy.. he's local but we are still needing on district to work with and we have two gems for the 3rd district... we are really thinking of running both gems campaigns ...having two ...here means no one else will run ... I favor that as that would get us 5 out of 9...
We lose rarely but we started with voter initiatives. Just one on the 6th of this month... no more grocery tax here won on the kenai peninsula. Last one was increasing property tax homeowners exemption from 20k to 50 k.
My catch line was....
"The words Some assembly needed always brings a smile."
See. The assembly wanted more power and less input from the public
