The Republican candidate for governor of Kentucky favors legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes. In an unusual role reversal, his Democratic opponent is attacking him for it.

While I believe there are some medicinal uses for the weed, I also believe medicinal use is the Judas Goat for recreational use and is a 95% sham in practice.

Of course you are right and it happens everywhere medicinal use is passed. It's amazing how many people develop symptoms of some malady and insist pot is the only thing to give them relief once it passes. It's no different than the people who flock to the ER for pain pills complaining of a sore toe. Most doctors know they are only there for the drugs and refuse to give it to them but there are a few doctors who will.

It's goofy that there should be a "medicinal use" flag over it.
Just decriminalize it. Don't legalize it, don't let the govt have any say whatsoever.
People have the right to do with their bodies as they wish.
Time to stop this ludicrous "war on drugs" and put the money to better use. Oh, like maybe getting treatment for people instead of incarcerating them?

In Alaska by a citizen not the legislation we barely passes legalizing pot.
It was done via a fast moving outside group... think Bloomberg and anti gun group. It was a 17 page petition... the bulk of it was never read by the vast majority. Also the vast majority fails to know that bills and ordinances pass via citizens petitions constitutional in this state are on the book for ONLY TWO YEARS at any time after two year it can be wipe away ...no longer the law... which is why we have to be prepared every two years to fight for local term limit and put back on the ballot via petition every two years where it soundly passes. Same with our tax reforms.
I mention this because it matters with the pot issues. The way it was written was that the legislators would be require to Wright the regulations. Well a year after its pasts they are still writing it.. some of it has been done.
Till regulations are set up and past it is illegal and those caught doing the following will be banned from gain a license to sell if.. they are caught selling prior to gaining a license.
They, the legislators will not be finished in the next year. Puff it's gone. And back to decriminalize pot,....have to the Raven law ....I think.

We let people smoke, drink, gamble, enter and stay in the country illegally, don't enforce gun laws, have children without parenting skills or the ability to support them, disrespectful kids disrupting learning prior to dropping out of school, yet we want to pour money into judging who should use how much marijuana in what form. Just more government regulations. Marijuana use is increasing. Laws are not stopping it.

Decriminalization worked in fact making it a sale able commodity caused them to create a need to regulate it. Medically and for personal use I am fine with it..I have no qualms with it... abuse of any thing can happen. I choose not to do drugs for me. I wish that regulations ....which is controlled would be greatly limited.
I have seen many great thinkers and worker etc use pot and booze and drive fast all regulated and demonized things yet they know their personal limits and take responsibility and self limit. With so much external control people hear rapidly losing the skills to self regulate and need a care taking government... that can't self regulate.. it's a mess.
Yes, out control people always exists and left the population via natural causes which naturally educated many in the population as to what not to do.

They are supposed to put a marijuana sales facility in our podunk town early next year. The local paper has ran articles about it and a close relative of mine has applied to be head of security. They purchased land on the outskirts of town at the end of a dead end road with only 3 houses on it. There's only about 4000 people in town and the town is the county seat. Pretty dead around this area and I suspect this new store will be the busiest around.

I used to be totally against legalization of any drugs, period. Now I'm seeing the aftermath of our "War On Drugs" - militarized police & swat raids for a baggie, inaccurate information leading to terrorizing/killing innocents, the carnage in our cities by drug gangs, tremendous federal/state expenditures with no apparent success, and deaths from overdoses of badly mixed drugs. We're making Mexican psychopaths rich, while anyone with a yearning can buy whatever they want.
Sometimes you just have to admit when you've been whipped.

Even if it's legal... I have the final say if I want to fuzzy my mind a bit.
Knowing folks that use it yet keep a responsible life kinda changed my view... and add in what Tom said... well let it be... freedom over control when ever possible... I think it is possible. What a person does in any condition not what stemmed the conduction matters in charging.
Think happy sleepy drunk vs a raging angry violent drunk.
Behavior vs substance.

I use to fuzzy my mind with muscle relaxants and sleeping pills. The only difference was instead of drug cartels getting my money, pharmaceutical companies were. I imagine pharmaceutical companies are a big force behind legalization marijuana for medicinal purposes.

Blue what I'm trying to say is its not the devil. It has its place. I think many were ...I myself scared straight but it's hard to find folks who did not at least try it. When granny has to fear grand children getting busted and jail for helping her... I see a problem.
