They gave our county a motor home set up as an emergency command center. Sherrif says it will never in a thousand years be used for anything, but it would take about 5 years to get permission to sell it.....Joe

Surely the Feds have a few retired M1-A1 Abrams tanks they'd be glad to send them, one of those would end a standoff in a hurry. The Sheriff just isn't thinking big enough.

That Scheriff just an't thinking at all. Here they would have one their contractor buddies pad a bill somewhere put that thing in proper shape . After it then met their standards the officers would take turns doing undercover surveillances at the best lakes around ,amassing generous amounts of overtime .

Roger that, Jim.
I used to get a visit from the fire chief in a small NM town every so often. he needed me to repair the living hell out of a few fire trucks, because if he didn't spend his full budget for the year he would lose some of it the next year.
I wouldn't charge them for anything I didn't do, as a matter of principle, so those fire trucks were prob'ly FAR better than they were the day they rolled off of the line. My principles didn't go so far as to prohibit me from spending a few very expensive hours looking for something to fix. They let me know that if I wouldn't do it, Ford garage would....Joe

And the county Board of Supervisors approved spending not just the requested $175,000 but the whole purchase price of $325, 000. To come out of the pool of extra sales taxes that came from a ballot proposal designating that the extea money go to improve public safety.
oh- I feel so much safer...

To come out of the pool of extra sales taxes that came from a ballot proposal designating that the extea money go to improve public safety. oh- I feel so much safer... Not only that but the actual retail price was $425,000. leaving them a net amounted saved of $100,000. for other expenditures . Only Govt . accountants count such things as defunk student loans as a asset .While back I heard all those supplies the parents send to school at the first of the year with their children those not used go to the dumpster at the end of the year .I guess it is easier to beg new ones than to dust off the old ones. I will say I refused to precipitate, I supplied my child's needs as needed. Took a little understanding with the school but it can be done, using the right method .

My county would have to fix the roads before they could use one of them. What roads? All we have around here is trails. And since our county has only two full time deputies who would drive it.
