P.J. O'Rourke and gang have come up with a great online magazine, American Consequences. This month's issue talks about everything from bitcoin to wine to the Galapagos. As always, O'Rourke is engaging and informative. online.flippingbook.com/view/195806/Oh, and it's free. If periodicals don't work for you (or fit in this thread), may I suggest Mr O'Rourkes Eat The Rich? He takes on global economies, trying to answer the question, "Why do some places prosper and thrive, while others just suck?" Intelligent, pithy, sometimes a wee bit adolescent (he used to write for National Lampoon), O'Rourke is what I like to read when I want to learn about what's going on in the world. I am currently waiting on my copy of his latest, How the Hell Did This Happen? The Election of 2016.

I signed up, hopefully I won't get spammed, but the little bit of perusing I did it seemed interesting.

yes, interesting. But who has time? I wish there was some kind of news digest that gives you the facts without talking reams around it first. Stick to the essentials. I would have liked to read what they accidentially discovered in the Galapagos. I'll tell you what. It was some fancy hotel for the rich.

I have read his book, Modern Manners. That's definitely NOT the etiquette that I teach my kids, but it was a very accurate description of some behavior that I have seen!

There is so much information out there, it is often difficult to choose what is worthy of my attention. The biggest hurdle I had to overcome was accepting the fact that, despite the vast wealth and availability of so much information, I will not in a million years ever get to all of it. Further (and this was the most liberating), I am not responsible to read/learn/know all of it. Freed from an unrealistic expectation, I now read what floats my boat (CC, periodicals and books of interest) and what I have to read for now (professional material). Can't begin to tell you the weight that's off my shoulders now that I am reading for Pony and no one else's expectation. Hm. I think there's a thread in that...

you right of course, but I would get to a lot more of it if I did not have to read three pages of words to get one page of information. That is what irritates me.

I think that the Associated Press used to perform that function but they are very biased now too.

I'm a pretty prose-y Pony, and like the background and descriptive words that get me to where the author is headed. Don't mind a couple trips around the mulberry bush, as it were. Perhaps you're a "Joe Friday" kind of reader: "Just the facts, ma'am!"
