This is an author review, not a book review.
Burke has a LOT of novels out there, and once I get started on them, I may go through a half dozen or so, or I may catch myself preceeding my daughter's and grandaughter's names with "miss", or asking someone in the middle of an argument, "Did you want to say somethng else?", whereupon I know I have drunk far too deep from the Burke well and it's time to go elsewhere for a while.

None of the characters are especially likable, but the events are so well written that I keep going back for more. I started with the ones set in New Orleans, which are my favorites, but the new one set in Texas is quite good, too. Plenty of gratuitus violence, and while the good guy does not always win, the bad guy always looses. Can't explain the attraction, but you might share it, and if you do, there is a LOT of reading out there by this author.....Joe
