Not sure that’s its technically a book, maybe more of a “short” story but something on which to really think. Written by John Galt. I found a link on line. Anyway the premise is the dollar loses value as a trade currency back in 2010. Doesn’t really get into specifics on how but more on how quickly America falls apart. Think New World order. Military law, resistance are “terrorists”, people are encouraged to report their neighbors, all money is seized and new Dollar Cards are issued with a purchases tracked. Basically in one week America is no more. Eye opening and all too realistic with those who resist being basically doomed with the full rath of the government coming down on them.

I always enjoyed John Galt's observances..... ......Joe Me too. He was on a couple of other forums when I was there. He kinda went off the deep end during and after this last election. Couldn't believe his guy didn't win and wanted everyone to see how bad Trump was/is.

The author brought out most all the laws and regulations that have been quietly put in place, along with the different organizations involved, so for that portion it was realistic. What wasn't realistic was the time frame and the number of people instantly available. With over 330 million people in the country, not even the entire military would be able to enforce martial law widespread enough to be effective, and certainly not in less than a couple months, let alone a week. It takes a huge planning effort to move large bodies of troops, food, fuel, sanitation, medical, motor pool equipment & personnel, etc.
A few brigades in some divisions, like 101st & 82nd Airborne are on ready standby to airlift nearly anywhere in the world, but it still takes weeks.
I will say I got wrapped up in the story in spite of the very short time frame, and ended up a bit depressed with the overall scenario.

Ummm,
Lots of John Galts out there, each borrowing the name of the central character in Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. In conservative circles, the equivalent of signing one's work with the name "superman"......Joe

We have some friends we see about once a year who are from Central Il, and the man once observed how tightly the government could control this desert just by putting observation posts on top of the mesas. I took him for a ride and showed him some of the already existing observation posts and the parade of border patrol trucks and told him how every little control all of those troops and treasure were actually exerting towards keeping the border sealed.
I had a trapper camping on my place a few winters ago who was working several valleys on both sides of the AZ/NM border. There were trolls all over the place looking for him every time he parked his truck at one valley or another, tilling up dirt for him to leave tracks in....like a giant manhunt, because they did not know who is was and he had out of state plates.
This went on for a month or so with him setting and baiting traps and carrying out pelts. They caught on that he was a trapper after finding his traps, but they never made any contact until he walked up to the OP and introduced himself. They were surprised never to have even seen his tracks before, and he told them he had been walking around the soft dirt track traps they set up for a month.
A few red faces.....Joe

This John Galt is from Florida. JohnGaltFla was his handle on the forums. I think he has some kind of radio program too. Knowledgeable fellow about some financial things.

But I do understand what you're feeling. I was the same way the first time I read "One Second After". That book made a profound impression on me.

One Second After had a profound impression on you? You wouldn't believe how much money that book has cost us. My wife read it, and yes, we do have an EMP proof Bronco sitting in our parking area, and that's just the start of it.

The book that got me started was Alas, Babylon. I read it back in 6th grade. “Oh no! The great city! Bavel [Babylon], the mighty city! In a single hour your judgment has come!” Revelation 18:10 Young, impressionable minds really need to stick to Little House on the Prairie books...

I read Alas, Babylon! after the One Second After. It was a very good book. I didn't even realize how long it had been around.
