I found myself liking Daniel Woodrell Books.
I know not his Book but I've started reading A Single Shot by Mattew F. Jones.
Some of these books make you wonder how the Author knows or even thinks of so much detail.
I talked with another Author from the Ozarks said she hated Daniel Woodrell because he makes out in Winters Bone there is a Meth problem in the Ozarks.Well I use to not see how bad it is until lately but yes there is a Meth problem. You camp on Government Lands anymore some cook out in the brush when the wind is right. Met Heads might live next to you. It use to be Marijuana but got too easy to spot now it is Meth.

saw a artice in a big news paper the other day--not a local one--naming west plains as meth plains

There is a type of meth known as 417 (the local area code).
I saw an article a few months back about some southern MO guy who developed a method of making meth at a consistent strength/quality. Can't find the article now, but it was very telling.
At this point, however, MO is no longer meth capital. Seems that TN and KY are vying for that dubious title.
