There is a man who should be granted a carried concealed gun by the locals. A gift with meaning and usefulness in his possession.

I think he should carry open, like we do here in Missouri.
The whole CC thing kind of grinds me. 1.) why should we have to pay for and be licensed to exercise our 2a right?
2.) Open carry is more apt to discourage would-be thieves/attackers/whatever than concealed.

Pony ...I live in and open carry... ok the big city we call las Anchorage not so much. But out side the city ... it's just normal to see. Would you freak out to see someone with a baseball cap...because gun open carry here are just as Norma...
My son when he was saw ten went into one of those no gun free zones... it was the court house. He has a few tiny bullets on him in a coat pocket.. he beep... check, found, no big deal. He had been practicing shooting and learning. Those with out open carry make it seem that it's the wild west... yet anchorage has the shoot out.
I find in open carry where it is common that education starts young, care and safety strict... even those parents that tend to go soft on kids... take safety rules dead serious. Skilled people work with kids. At say 10- 12 it's common for parents to ask ....hey has your child taken a gun safety class?... I thought the kids could come over with their parents and do some shooting while we cook out doors.
It's like swimming pools were when I was little a fun thing to do but no parent with a pool party wanted a non ...never swam kid over and always requested a parent present. To me it is logical. Made it very normal..

So pony what is it like in your open carry state. Well, some folks are cool about it but in some areas (like, oh, StL or KC), people freak. Nick carries everywhere, even into church edifices. Usually, no problem. But there are always those who feel they have to call you out. "Are you a police officer? Military?..." and my favorite, "Do you have a license to carry that?" To which we reply, "Why yes, and so do you. It's called the Second Amendment." We were in a "healthy food" store up in Columbia (home of Mizzou, the largest indoctrination center in the state). Had a pretty full cart, and were getting ready to put some more goods in the basket when Suzie Sorority fearfully approaches Nick to ask if he's a cop. No? Well, then, she suggested he conceal his weapon. He informed her that this would be illegal. She asked him to take his sidearm to his car. No, that's not acceptable either. Then this little defender of all that is progressive told Nick that firearms are not allowed in this store. Really? You don't have it posted. Uh... well, the sign must have fallen down. Really? Where is it? At that point, I was tired of the whole thing. Said, "Let's just get her name and leave." Which we did. Nick wrote a very pointed letter to their corporate, and received a very apologetic letter in return, stating that it has never been their policy to exclude firearms from their stores, and offering a generous discount should we ever choose to shop there again. But we don't go back to Columbia any more.

I don't recall people open carrying in anchorage...so, when I moved here I asked .... as a new York blonde...what is in season to hunt. I. Was informed it's just that one never knows what could come up.
They tried to stop open carry in Soldotna once and the higher rank bough mayor lies there and ask that c.f. owners need to open carry even arranged a parade.... it was a big success.
Open carry is still the norm.
