Mike is my BIL. His wife (DH's sister) passed away a year and a half ago of colon cancer. She was the absolute love of Mike's life. I guess Mike has been depressed about this and just let things go. He is diabetic and on dialysis (but won't put himself on a transplant list). So, I found out that he had an infected toe. Went to the hospital and it was much worse than they originally thought. The infection had spread to his leg bone and did some heart damage. They performed emergency surgery last night and removed his whole leg. The doctor said he came through it fine. Haven't heard any updates today yet.
Please just say a little prayer for him. I really appreciate it. He does have a very supportive family (four of his siblings live in the area as does his mom). Thanks so much.

That is really sad that the infection was so bad that he had to have his leg removed. I'm so sorry and just said a prayer for him.

Thanks. My SIL (his wife) passed away a year and a half ago of colon cancer. She was the love of his life and he must have had trouble adjusting to the loss. He has been on dialysis of a few years and just sort of gave up and didn't care anymore. He wasn't taking care of himself and this is what happened. He is on a ventilator (no visitors yet) and they tried not to take the whole leg, but still might have to. They took part of it and will go back in and see if the infection is gone.
Thanks for the prayers - poor guy needs them.

Said prayers. I hope he can find a way to want to go on for all his loved ones who are still here. No doubt his wife would want that. No doubt he would want that from/for her if their situations were reversed.
But, I understand the thought of being lost without her. My dad experienced similar struggles. Hubby and I have talked about how lost we'd be without each other.
Prayed for his healing, body and soul.

They amputated his leg above the knee. He is healing well. He was on a ventilator, but he is now off. He is still in the hospital. I think my SIL said he will be fitted for a prosthesis. Thank you for your prayers.

Mike passed away last week. We all thought he was doing good and when he was sent to the rehab facility, he started bringing up blood on his first day of PT. They found is esophagus/stomach was perforated and they couldn't stop the bleeding. I think he sort of gave up after his wife passed (1.5 yrs. ago). He is now at peace and hopefully has found Donna again).
