So folks reported missing man. Detectives from Newton and Greene became involved in Lawrence county. Witness says missing man shot because he wrecked the murderers truck.
This brought back a memory of my former boss. A former girl friend did $1500 damage to his truck..gulp!! She promptly loss that status. So I found out his pickups were not just his pride and joy but he was married to his truck. A fact not to be forgotten. One day his precious truck caught fire while he was there alone with it. He never drove it again.

Here's a link to the story: www.ky3.com/content/news/Lawrence-County-Mo-Sheriffs-Office-investigating-possible-homicide-2-in-custody-566029961.htmlYears ago I ended up evicting some renters after inspecting the house. The wife brought in a late rent check to our office, and my wife noticed the woman had severe bruises on her face. She asked what happened, and the woman said her husband had beat her up for denting the fender on his work truck. I called a couple days later and said I was going to do a quick inspection of the house as was stipulated in the lease. Looking through, I saw a couple fist holes in walls, and a dead bolt on the master bedroom door, that had been kicked in. I gave them three days to get out. Or course they left the place a wreck, costing over $1200 to fix, with the new carpet at my cost. It turned out to be a good move though, about 6 months later I read that she'd poured gasoline in their house and lit it off. It killed her husband, but spread so fast she couldn't get her two daughters out. Went to prison for murder.

Can't really "like" that one, Tom. She should have moved the kids before sending the husband across the river.
I only ever rented out one house I owned, that was to a family who lived there when I bought the place. I told them over three months prior when I would be moving in. The idiot told me they would "try to be out" by then.
Idiot thought I would wait in a motel or something while they moved out at their leisure. When we got there, he said he needed a "few more days". 10 hours later all of their furniture and household goods were in a pile in their new house's yard. I told him either he moved it or I would.
Silly boy thought the cops would interfere. Not hardly. They would have helped me pitch it off of the flat bed if the chief would have allowed it.....Joe

joebill, I didn't like it either that her daughters died, him I couldn't care less. She obviously didn't have a lot of practice setting things afire with gasoline. A couple things I didn't include in the above post - she did save her one year old baby by crawling through a bathroom window. She was carrying another baby, and had been diagnosed with breast cancer. She refused treatment for her cancer so as not to damage the unborn child. My wife had talked to her several times, and I did a couple. She was a nice woman, but was living in hell with an abusive husband. I'll never understand why a woman will stay in a situation like that, but a lot do. I never heard anything else after she went to prison, but I'm pretty certain she died there after having the baby.

From time to time I read/hear about orgs that help women and children escape those situations and hide out until the trail goes cold somewhere.
Strikes me as a very high and honorable occupation. Risky, too, since a high percentage of the women go back to him a few times before making the final break, IF they survive....Joe

The next county over has a battered womens shelter where we do some occasional volunteer work. It is funded by state, county, and private donations. They can house about 50 women with their kids and it is always full. It is one of the few gov't funded orgs that I think spends their money wisely and effectively.
Part of the expense of operating the place is security. They can't be gov't funded and secretive, so abusive husbands know exactly where the Mrs might run.

There was a group setting up women's shelters hereabouts that were pure con jobs years ago.At first they were to be simply "women's shelters", but as they started getting some action, they shut off the tap to any women who had not been beaten, which was OK, except they helped the women make up bull crap stories about being beaten, then took a huge slice of the settlement.
If the ex husband had no money to grab, the women were not welcome there. It took the lawyers and the courts a few months to figure out the scam, then they were gone like a thief in the night, leaving the women still there to be evicted for non payment of rent. Dunno where they went from here.
There is absolutely NO degree of human misery too great to be bought and sold by SOMEBODY who only sees a commodity. One of the scamsters who got beat in court was the ex-girlfriend of a friend of mine who claimed he beat her when they were together. I saw those people a few times every week back then, and he was the one who was silent and wincing every time SHE got on a roll. He was trying to hang on to her, but she had the plan in place when she moved in with him. His parents had some bucks she was planning to collect on. Turned out they had emough bucks to hire a good lawyer.
Saw here again a couple of weeks after she lost in court....she was in the doc's office with a guy FAR younger than her getting the blood test to get married. She liked to drug him across the room to avoid conversation with me. I let it go. He was obviously too enthralled to believe anything I said.....Joe
