We are experiencing a bad drought, at least what this area calls a drought. There has been almost no rain in about two months, so we are irrigating the pastures 24 / 7. Now is the time when the grass needs to be growing, and it needs water. We're down to three rolls of hay, one of which will have to go out tomorrow.
With all our equipment deployed, we can water 6 to 7 acres every 12 hours. That will hold the pasture for about 4 days and then it needs a resoak. That means twice a day we move everything and reset. My feet seem like they never dry out. My FIL gave us two boot dryers for Xmas. So as soon as we get all the water running, dry boots come off the dryer and wet boots go on. The dryer is sitting on the porch so no mess in the house. It's wonderful to have dry feet. I highly recommend this product.
The one drawback is that it doesn't have an on off switch, so we got a plug switch similar to these...

Nick's Muck boots still get wet, and don't dry easily. I may pick that little gadget up for him. Thanks, DEKE!

Yeah, I should probably have some, but this is Florida. I've never needed them before. And besides, unless you're a complete maroon, as Bugs Bunny used to say, around here, you don't stand in standing water unless you want to feed the alligators one last time.

The old dairy farmer trick is to save up your plastic grocery bags and wrap your foot in a bag before sticking it into a wet boot!

that is a common product in Montana. shoveling snow, hunting, fishing, just walking around in slush is enough to get wet boots and the dryers really work. nothing like putting on dry warm boots in the middle of winter.

One of my clients has one of those boot dryers, although I don't think they've ever used it. They're kinda cute; a couple of white-collar workers who bought 75 acres with an old farmhouse on it for a lark. Now they're trying to figure out what to do with it ... they live 40 miles away in an HOA plan. For awhile, they had Amish tenants who were raising Jersey steers and chickens for them (chuckle just a little) but that partnership fell apart and I guess the Amish stole everything that wasn't nailed down before decamping across the state line into Ohio, out of reach of the Pennsylvania sheriff, who wasn't inclined to mount a search for the missing Jersey steers and chickens. Last I heard, a neighboring farmer offered to lease part of the land to run his cattle on. They were excited when he offered them $2,000 ... until they realized that was for the season, not for a month. Oh. They're nice people ... I try to give them pointers as best I can ... tactfully ... as the customer is always right, right? Maybe when they get tired of playing "Green Acres," they'll sell me that boot dryer, cheap.

Maybe when they get tired of playing "Green Acres," they'll sell me that boot dryer, cheap. ------ That is a funny way to describe them.. We have a number of people like that around this part of the bush.. Bought an old farm, keep there horses they only ride once every two weeks.. This is still free range country, so they get up set when stock comes around. They get upset if ask to hunt there property.. NEVER, NEVER.. type attitude.. Then get up set when bears cause problems.. Get up set in general when things are not like they are "down south".... Then they wonder why very few here have time for them... Well... There is a solution... Go back down south... My 5 cents of opinion, being the SOB that I am..

Haha, I guess the city couple and their Amish tenants came to a parting of ways because the lease specified no hunting on the property as the owner's insurance didn't cover it. Of course the Amish paid no attention and just did as they pleased, until the owner showed up to find a deer hanging in the barn. Whoops! Prolly as bad as having a deer hanging in your milkhouse when the state inspector comes around ...

Prolly as bad as having a deer hanging in your milkhouse when the state inspector comes around ... ------ Never heard of that one.... However.. Had dairy farm neighbors who one day she got especially dirty somehow and decided a quick shower in the milk house was OK.. Until the bulk driver came in to hook up the tank.. He always knocked after that..
