Bear season opened April 1.... The west slope of the river valley where town is has starting to clear snow, so it won't be long before bears will start to come out for short times.. Once they are out for the season, they will likely immediately start being pests different places.. Town usually dispatches 50+ bears a year that cause problems..
Too much snow in our bush yet for them to be active.. However it will be a good idea to start carrying ammunition in chore jeans or jacket..

Tim Horton, when town dispatches bear are they given to folks to eat? We only have deer down here in Texas. Sure glad we got two of those in the freezer.

My "spider senses" tell me that everyone and their grandmother is going to become a hunter next fall in an attempt to fill the freezer with food just like everyone has now become a home gardener.

Tim Horton, when town dispatches bear are they given to folks to eat? ++++ Unfortunately... To the best I can find out, or not find out..... Nuisance bears are buried in the land fill.. Too many layers of provincial, district, and maybe the least from the city health regulations to let that happen.. Thank God they do not trap and release anymore.. That sound harsh, but to trap and remote release is far harder on the animal, and harder on people in the area of release.. With release now an old problem has become a new problem in a different place.. We have seen the live trap go by our area and had a problem with a bear at our buildings within 24 to 72 hours.. More than once.. I've been told when release used to happen in this part of the bush the local procedure was to apply rule 30-06 of the "3-S" management plan.. So I've heard.. +++ +++
My "spider senses" tell me that everyone and their grandmother is going to become a hunter next fall ++++ A rise in the number of people with little or no woods or hunting experience, and with firearms...... What could go wrong there ?? ??

Had a cousin who lived in a small town in upstate New York for part of his career. An avid deer Hunter, he went to bowhunting only. Too many idiots from NYC in the woods during gun season. In the area around his little town, somebody was either or had a close call every hunting season.

On the upstream end of Pot Hole City, the little river runs into the big river.. Then through the entire length of town..
A report saying a black bear was seen at the park where the rivers meet.. There are bears there quite often and usually most of the spring, summer. People, bear issues are quite common there as people don't get the concept, there are usually bears in the park, don't go to the park.. Evidently there thinking is, it's a park, it's for us... No one has been hurt in a long time, but eventually you know what is going to happen..
Both rivers are full of ice flows the size of semi trucks. Town is all of a sudden OMG were going to have flooding.. Well the snow pack is twice normal this year.. What did you think ?? As the ice flows, the park floods, as the ice flows the bears can or can not come and go..
Still too much snow in our part of the bush for anything to be out yet..
