Movie recommendation; Wonder
It has been out for a few years but I saw it on TV a couple of nights ago when I couldn't sleep. I forgot how good it is. There are no car chases, no guns, no crimes that need to be solved, no doctors deciding which nurse to bed, it is just the story of a particular family dealing with a young son who has severe facial deformities that limit everything, his hearing, taste, ability to chew, smell, and see. It takes place as the boy starts 5th grade, the first time he has ever been well enough to attend a school.
One of the things I like about the movie is that it looks at the story in a series of perspectives, how the older daughter deals, how the daughter's best friend deals, how the boy's friend deals. Every character is human, flawed, loving in their own way, trying to do their best and making their own mistakes along the way.
If you like stories about families and kids, you'll love this movie. It is also a book if you prefer that format.

did you see 'the waking of Ned divine'? a small community on an Irish island. We laughed tears. Actually the movie's name is just "Waking Ned Devine" and I think I peed my pants laughing so hard, especially when the one guy was speeding through hill and dale, naked on his scooter.
Weird thing is I have never seen the DVD offered for sale anywhere and that is one I would surely buy.

Yes, Michael Sullivan, while Jackie was leading the lotto man on a wild goose chase.
The priest returning from Lourdes, sending the witch to hell.
the lotterie man walks into the church and sneezes, the look on Jackie's face is priceless when it dawns on him, and Michael with tears in his eyes...

I have seen it a couple of times and would love to see it again. I was touched by that sense of community.

I've never even heard of either movie and will have to put them on my list.
I'm a sucker for an Irish accent. Maybe it's my Welsh roots.
