I never cranked it up on a motorcycle. When you hit 100, I think too much about the possible closed-casket funeral and lose my nerve. Cars? Speed didn't bother me. Fastest I've ever been was 168mph.
Sister-in-law's husband drove as fast as I did, or maybe even faster.😲 He and SIL were driving from Baton Rouge to Jacksonville, Florida for my BIL's wedding. I disremember the exact time of the trip, but he averaged 92mph, including gas and pit stops.
That, my friends, is cadillac'in...

Driving home one night on twisty little two lane roads from our store in Bentonville AR I slipped a Righteous Brothers CD into the player. Half way through "Little Latin Lupe Lu" I looked down to see I was doing a little over 80mph. What can I say? The song gets me going.

Same thing happens to me when the radio plays Red Barchetta from Rush's Moving Pictures album.
Man, who can keep it at the speed limit when Geddy Lee is driving for his life?

The biggest thing I ever got a ticket for was 16 mph over the speed limit, it went from 35 to 20. I was doing 36, and passed into a school zone. Mind you no one was on the street and school was in session so no kids were any where. Otherwise I never went much faster than 10 mph over the limit. Mostly because the rusted out buckets I owned wouldn't go that fast. If I went too fast pieces of the car would fly off. I always bought used cars and drove them till they dropped. Most economical way to own a car. The only fast car I had was a Gremlin. the engine died and I put a bigger engine in it. At stop lights when sports cars would pull up and gun their engines, I'd wait till the light turned green and take off I'd beat them till I hit the speed limit and then level off. I always could stay ahead of them till then.

Jeeps have run races and hold titles.... I know the Jetta would go 180mph.. A friend and I used to debate who would win the race if we put the Jetta against the Jeep. Both were diesels the Jeep just a tad bigger motor but the Jetta has a very fine tuned engine and transmission . It can go from 0 to 60 in the blink of an eye

Fastest chase I ever had was 148 MPH. Guy was on a motorbike, arrested him for DUI and reckless. Lots of stops in the 120 MPH range. Am a firm believer in the speed limit. Went to too many fatal accidents where speed was the cause.

I had a few years in my youth of driving like a wild man, but I got slowed down when my license was rolled back to only driving to and from work and my car insurance was the same price per month as my car payment. Now, I can speed modestly because the cops do not bother old guys much. If I drove now like I did as a kid not much doubt it would be fatal. Reaction times are so slow......I'll finish the post with an edit as soon as I come up with the right metaphor... …...Joe

Thanksgiving 1984, coming home from college, Cincinnati to Norfolk, VA took 12 hours at speed limit. I was in a 1972 Datsun 240Z on a Maryland interstate, wee hours of the morning. The cop said I was doing 121. The speedo didn't work but I knew I was about maxed out. He gave me a ticket for reckless driving which was something like $75 and I was so happy not to be going to jail I could barely contain myself.
Then he handed me a ticket for excessive speed. The largest allowable fine was for $250. He had scratched it out and written in $500. At a time when a half year of college was about $1200, that was a huge amount of money.
I had my NROTC commanding officer write a letter saying he would supervise community service. I attached that to a letter I wrote to the court saying I didn't have the money and to schedule a court date. I nver heard back from them. I don't know if the cop took pity on me or if the court lost the ticket or what. But I didn't drive through Maryland for more than a decade, afraid if I got stopped I would get arrested.
Post turkey day, on the way back to college I got a ticket for 77 in a 55. Young men can be really stupid. But that was the last ticket I would get for 24 years. Then I bought a cop magnet sports car and the ticket was for 80 in a 55. Middle aged men can be really stupid.
