The bookstores are finally open again!!! I jokingly told the guy working that I had been going through withdrawal, lol. Found a great workbook for Benjamin for over the summer for only $3! That's the most that I paid for anything there. About $40 later I had a sizable stack that Abraham carried home, just 1.5 miles. Found a book of Yeats poetry, Dante's Purgatorio, and a complete version of Kipling's poems. I love his poem, 'The American Rebellion', read it to Abraham last night. He commented that they don't teach poetry at school which is a shame. Poetry stretches the mind just as Mathematics does. Out of all the children Ben enjoys poetry the most, he's always making up funny little poems and puns. I am trying to remember what long Kipling poem Dad used to recite to put us to sleep. Guess I'll just call and ask, the book has 850 pages and small print. Oh, and I bought 5 of John Jakes books, has anyone read his stuff before? Abraham is interested in reading them but are they suitable for a 13 year old boy?

It has been a very longtime since I read his books. As I recall they were deep and I will put it this way. It totally depends on how good a reader he is. Remembering families and relations, I got buried but was right there...in the book.

daw, thanks! He's a very good reader and enjoys well-developed characters. The books aren't 'racy' or overly descriptive of relations between men and women, are they?

Clean as far as I can remember. I was hoping to reread them but don’t think the library is open yet.

Had a bad moment when I mistook John Jakes for Taylor Caldwell. Far as I know, Jakes is jake (OK)…..Joe
