We have bird houses. I'm especially fond of Martin houses.
So, yes, people still put up bird houses.
However...the market is pretty saturated. Every flea market, craft sale, church rummage sale has got multiple booths selling handmade birdhouses, made from license plates, pallets, or gourds.

Yea, a new hardware and lumber place really got a great start as the country was shutting down for the virus.
They put up this guffy video of how to keep sane and safe and maintain hope by a father & daughter bird house kit .
The premise was what to do when school was canceled and work too and suddenly family time is 24hours a day.
The father daughter team designed a lot to build and they (happened to be the brother of new store).. Gathered all the supplies and made lots of them and showed them hanging every where as if their yard was the public housing for birds ... Thus seeing they had far too many but they could not stop cutting the pieces or does boredom would result they made lots and provided one made but not painted ....for those who failed woodworking 101. It was funny and the dad did everything in a kilt... Scottish kilt.
Hey, the new store ran the video as a joke but it became a fad here and folk recreated their own wacky video of keeping busy and sane and not killing anyone while trapped in lock down but building a bird house and providing proof that you fails woodworking 101. Now the new store is up and running. While I can't remember the real name as folks cal it it the birdhouse store.

I love bird houses, we have five of them. One is red and the opening is the shape of a heart. Funny, but that bird house attracts the most birds. There's a sparrow family in there now and for the first time the woodpecker house my girl put up has sparrows in it. It's never been used by any birds since she put it up over 10 years ago. It's quite roomy, would make a nice home for the Woodpeckers, my daughters favorite bird.

I collect 'em! Have maybe 25 'decorative' ones in the house, 'bout 6 on screened porch & 10+ outside.
