BLM protesters showed up at my town again today. Middle DD said she read online that Obama mentioned our town and said something to the effect that he thought it was great that they were hitting the little towns like ours. So BLM decided we needed a repeat. This time our police & deputies got backup from the state cops, cops from a nearby town and the nearest city, so a lot of police presence. A couple of my family members were there for part of the afternoon. There were cops at every street and they were keeping the 2 groups (protesters and townspeople) apart, not letting either side cross the street. A lot of yelling going on back and forth. One of my family members said there were some real jerks from the protesters side, and 1 from our side (he had been drinking). Cops arrested 2-3 of the protesters for attempting to start a scuffle.
Family member said there were 2 people from BLM who were obviously in charge. One was a man probably in his late 40s wearing a mask pulled high on his face, a beanie hat and sunglasses, he was sitting on a bench in the park keeping an eye on everything. Protesters kept going over and talking to him, family member said it appeared they were getting instructions from him and that he may have been giving them cash. The other person was a female.
Sounds like there will be a Part 3, they are planning a "big" protest here next weekend. So sick of them here in our town. I'm afraid some of our locals or our cops might get hurt.
ETA: DGD who lives in KY called this morning, she said BLM was trying to start a protest in a small town near them too.

...................We haven't had any problems , so far in the small town 5 miles east of me , which is actually a suburb of Ft. Worth , tx ! Should they try to block traffic or some other idiot disruption I'm afraid they might get run over or shot since people around here 'carry' and won't put up with any BS . ...................The crappola they participate IN , in the larger towns won't fly in a lot of Texas towns..........maybe Austin cause they're a bunch of Liberals or Houston . , fordy

Way to close to you for comfort wildhorseluvr , prayers are coming your way. Thanks, Woody. This is causing me to give more thought to the location of my next home. Definitely don't want to move into town. Even though I'm out of town, it's an easy walk to where these protests are being held. Before I became so crippled up I used to walk there almost every morning after chores. Not good to be too remote either. While DGD's FIL (former Ranger) is here, I think I'll pick his brain about location, security, defense, etc. Don't think this BLM/Antifa cr@p is going to go away any time soon.

If you remember the Rodney King riots, a white innocent truck driver stopped his truck because he didn't want to possibly hit someone and cause injury. He was pulled from his truck and beaten unmercifully. I remember someone slamming some sort of pottery on his head. He could have easily died there and no one came to his rescue for a long time after he was unconscious, IIRC.
He was guilty of driving while white and was attacked by racists.

Pretty sure we will never see any of them here. Population density outside the little hamlets is one soul per six square miles. Nobody around to bully, so no point in showing up here.....Joe

wildhorseluvr, so part three is supposed to be next weekend? I'm praying so hard for this to be over! I don't like the thought of being alone and being so close to the protests for you. Has there been any violence there or just protests? I guess you'll be thinking and praying real hard as to where you move...know I'm praying for and with you.

And those 16 are pretty well defended. We know what to do with the aftermath of any unpleasant encounters with outsiders who think they can come here and attempt to destroy our home.

I appreciate the prayers, woody, Yes, they're planning a big protest here this coming weekend. ☹️ Not worried about myself but am concerned for our town and LEOs if it gets out of hand. We also had a lot of elderly veterans (male and female) show up at the last 2 protests, don't want to see any of them get hurt although maybe it's the protesters who need to be cautious. 😁 One of my family members said over half the townspeople present were open carrying and figured the rest were almost all carrying concealed. That may be part of the reason the protests here haven't turned violent.

It's obvious that Alaska is also by far the most sparsely populated state in the Union, with an average density of just 1.2 people per square mile. As you would imagine, there aren't many big cities in Alaska.
Most are in 3 cities
Unfortunately I have 80 people in the woods on 160 acres But they are anti guns, and my neighbors have 2 who take gun training serious. I have no problems encouraging them by donating ammo.

That’s a great idea wildhorseluvr, about asking the former ranger about a good location. Being alone as you are, it just may be a good idea to pick a little more populated area. But you’re a country girl, so you’ll probably pick the perfect country area that you’ll feel and will be comfy in. My son is still here with me, but I want him to get his own place & I’m planning on moving when the time is right. I just can’t keep up with the house and grounds. My son does a lot outdoors, but one thing he can’t do is trim the tall privet hedges. It’s a big job, they are around half of our yard. They’re very old. They were here when we moved in, in 1983. I really should just have them taken out and put up a privacy fence. It costs me $300.00 to get them cut back, twice a year. When I started with this landscaper about 15 years go, it was $125.00. Next time they’ll need trimming will be end of August and that’ll be it. Please keep us in the loop on the up coming weekend. I hope & pray all is peaceful if they protest. I wonder how long these are going to go on...enough!

woody, I'm hoping this big protest is just a lot of talk and turns into a big nothing burger. We'll see. On a different forum yesterday another person said their small town was being targeted like ours, multiple times. Our local LEOs will be able to keep it in hand unless the protestors show up in the hundreds. If by chance this should be a large protest and turn violent, I believe our townspeople would turn out en masse to side with our cops and protect our town. While I need less property to care for, I would wither away in town. Just need to find a quiet place away from people yet not be too secluded. Biggest thing is finding a place a LOT more secure than this one, which is why I'm needing some advice from my friend about choosing the next place wisely. I already have a list started but his advice would be invaluable. Hope you're able to find a suitable place for yourself. Hard to move when you've lived there "forever" and have emotion tied up in a place. I try to remember what my DH always said, "Just look at it as an adventure." I'm up for a new adventure. 😊 I believe these protests will continue (and escalate) up to the elections. If Trump wins, it's likely we'll see a lot worse for a long time. If he loses, this country is history. Either way, it won't be pretty. JMHO
