Ever been to Outback Steakhouse and had a bloomin onion? Here's the sauce they serve with it.
1/2 cup mayonnaise 2 teaspoons ketchup 2 tablespoons horseradish 1/4 teaspoon paprika 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder 1/8 teaspoon dried oregano 1 dash ground black pepper 1 dash cayenne pepper
Combine all ingredients and mix well. Cover and place in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. We use it as a sandwich spread and to dip fried veggies; it's great with okra.
While the above is very tasty, we like ours to have a bit more zing so I add a tsp of sambal paste. Sambal is the red chili pepper sauce you get in Chinese restaurants that makes your nose run. My DD and I believe that it's not hot enough unless it makes you cry.
While DD was visiting last week, she had a minor brain fart and asked me to pass the outhouse sauce. Wait, what? Being the kind, caring, and loving father that I am, I could not let the opportunity go by without a huge heaping helping of harassment.
"No, the outhouse sauce is a lot browner."
"Sorry, we're fresh out, but if you wait till tomorrow morning, I can make you plenty."
DD was amused. So was DW until that last comment.

I like sambal but I thought it was Thai...(that was the section I find it in the store)
I use sambal with peanut sause.
I never heard of it till I moved here and I really like it. Asian food and spices are so varied.

Hi ya there DEKE! Moi here decided to make your sauce recipe today. Must admit - after the mayo - I pretty much upped everything as far as ingredients - knowing our tastes... I figured I'd better come on here and thank you since my husband has now said for a third time that he LOVES that sauce. I pan fried some breaded zucchini and yellow squash and served it up. My husband has never been a fan of squash/zucchini in any fashion - but I told him to just try it with the sauce. Get this - I didn't fry up enough veg - A FIRST! Thanks so very much dude!Me thinks tomorrow I will panfry up more breaded squash/zucchini and throw some onions into the mix - yum!! My husband said he is sooo looking forward to it - strikes me as weird - this is definitely a first and your post is to thank. THANKS! ~Moi
