I have a 2-bulb motion-sensitive light fixture below the gutter and above the back door. I think it would be good if I adjust it to be wider. I can walk around pretty close to the house back there in the dark before it lights up. But I can't figure out how to determine how close to the ground it's actually "seeing". Or maybe adding another fixture, like somewhere along the driveway, would be an idea. Any hints? Thanks.

Assuming it sees the top of your head first, make note of where you are when the light turns on. Then visualize a line from the sensor to your head, and extend that line down to the ground. Did I understand the situation correctly i.e. what you are trying to accomplish? bd

brewdaddy, Thanks! Got it. I can do the same thing walking in from the sides, too. My gazebo sits pretty close to the house: a complication. But adding fixtures without knowing what I have didn't make sense.

We have 4 motion lights around the farm.. Coincidentally every other one is an older model alternating with much newer models..
Problem with the older ones is they seem to loose sensitivity, or are just so less sensitive than the newer ones.. Problem with the newer ones is they seem so ultra sensitive, most anything will trigger them..
With the newer ones we have had large miller moth trigger them.. Batts will trigger them chasing moths. One will be triggered by heavy rain running off the roof.. With any of the fixtures, it seems hard to find the sweet spot of sensitivity for each light considering the area it covers.. But can be done with time and patience..
Unless I'm really sound asleep, at about half asleep any one of them that comes on brings me up like I was shot out of bed.. Annoying, but I suppose better than sleeping through everything.. A light, inside or out, or strange voice in the house I have always been sensitive of and react to.. It could be worse I guess..

We have security lights on all the approached to the house, with the exception of the door I use to go investigate why those lights came on.
I put one in the concrete storm shelter to help get down into it at night, and one in the rabbitry so I don't have to walk in to switch on the lights. Funny, when the light goes on in the rabbitry the dogs can see it and start barking.
