Name something very simple to make which uses few ingredients, but the final result varies widely among cooks.
First thing I thought of was biscuits. Has there ever been anything that varies so much between cooks using basically the same ingredients?

Biscuits are one thing that I cannot produce consistently myself.
I did read an article just last week, that said to use a certain brand of self-rising flower: White Lily. I will have to see if I can find that, because when biscuits turn out well, they're heavenly. When they turn out poorly, they are disappointing, sad hockey pucks.

Fun idea Coffee can taste wildly different, even if the same brand is used.
Biscuits are a definite -- if I could figure out how to make biscuits consistently light, big and easy -- I'd be 300# and climbing.
Pie Crust -- my mom's was heavenly, mine is ok, my friend used my mom's recipe every year -- hard as tree bark.

An easy recipe I learned when I was single - meat loaf using the 2-2-2-1 recipe.
Two pounds hamburger Two eggs Two pieces of toasted bread cubed small One medium onion diced small
Salt & pepper to taste Topped with cream of mushroom soup right out of the can.
Can't get much simpler than that.

Limoncello
Vodka Lemons Sugar
No 2 batches taste the same I am about to make my Christmas Limoncello with Meyer Lemons from my little trees that are in containers (out all summer, inside for winter). Because we repotted this year the yield is good but the lemons are smallish. I will make up for it with less sugar. Yum cannot wait.

You had posted this on another forum awhile back and I subsequently tried my hand at making some. Yeah, talk about YUM. I had since forgotten about it and now I know what is going to happen to those extra lemons I have on hand at the moment!
